Good evening,

what a week! Sorry for not posting but it was all a bit intense. Binie was quite unwell and in pain on Thursday. She was hiding and didn't pee for 17 hours, which made me panic quite a bit. Maybe she would have done this even longer if Colleen @SmallestSparrow would not have suggested, to move the box to another place, because she might associate the place with the pain. I did it and an hour later she peed a good amount.

The blood test confirmed, that she has a massive inflammation. Also her kidney values are not in range but the vet said this does not necessarily mean ckd but could be due to the infection.

Thank god she was already better on Friday and we had another check at the vet who gave buscopan again. I think today she is not in pain anymore. She stopped licking her belly and she doesn't lose urine anymore in strange places but uses the box again. Seems like we give her the right antibiotic based on the antibiogram in December, still waiting for the urine test to come back.

As she might not get rid of the multi-resistant germ, I wonder when I will know in future when to start the treatment. I don't want her to be in so much pain again. I wonder if I should have asked the vet for a blood test in December, besides the urine test. I will discuss this with the vet.

Her bg also recovers slowly and we saw blue numbers today. I was also amazed when I tested ketones on Friday and it was 0.0 besides the inflammation. The vet thinks, that the higher dose of insulin helps.

Her appetite is not so great, maybe because of the antibiotics. I hope she recovers fast.

By the way: On Thursday she was one year on insulin. :cat: What a year...

Thank you for all the great support! :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Hi Cécile, I am sorry to read, you have been so sad. For many of us grief comes in waves. I hope you can just let it pass through you. I send you many, many hugs and positive vibes.
Yes, I am also grateful, that besides her UTI they didn't find a bigger problem. It was hard to see her in so much pain. I hope next time I can be even faster. Hope you can do something nice on your weekend.:bighug::bighug::bighug:

Thank you so much Staci, for your always super sweet and encouraging support! :bighug::bighug::bighug: I learned a lot from you in this year and one thing was, to look at the details and be persistant. That helped me a lot to keep track on her bladder situation. Thank you so much for sharing your vast knowlede and your incredible emotional support at the same time!

For us the first year was the worst, after that it was so much easier. i hope it will be the same for you and Binnie!
I am feeling better, thank you, Heike :bighug:
It is great that the antibiotic is working. I saw ads a few times (but never tried it) for a kind of litter that will change color if the cat has an infection. I am not sure if that exists in Europe, I'll try to find the name and give you the link here! Maybe that might help?
I found it:

we're doing a raclette for dinner with our friends tonight, my daughter is 19 today and it;s the first year we are not together on her birthday, but she had nice fun plans with her friends so it's all good. My son is at a music thing at the university with other musically gifted high schoolers, they are both happy and we should have a nice evening :)

Thank you so much Cecile! Your idea was a great inspiration! I am a bit hesitant changing the litter because we had a problem with Binie eating litter (longer story) but you made me remember that Royal Canine has some kind of grains you can put into the litter which change colour if they detect any blood. I will talk with my vet about it, because you can't buy them in the shops. Maybe I could also do urine tests.

Happy birthday for your daughter! Happy she celebrates with her friends and you got nice plans anyway. I love Raclette. Didn't know it is a thing in the US but maybe you brought it from France. Hope your son also had a great evening with his friends. :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Because I share an appreciation
of sleeping long hours in warm spaces

And I don’t like many people
I get that…
