Sorry! This was too late for me. Looks like he kept you busy last night. Were you able to step out?
Of course, no worries!
I know I occasionally catch you but otherwise its nice to hear your thoughts anyway for learning purposes.
Yes, I put a bit of higher carb food in the feeder at +2 and +3.
So I came home at +3.5 and gave him some higher carb stuff where called for according to here.
The forum I was on before - they do TR too but sliding scales. They have slightly different feeding advice and it does tie in with my own personal feeling about food/nature/wellness and modern medicines approach to diet and health. For instance I used to be in terrible health, lots of chronic conditions which meant I was bed bound. I knew there something really wrong with my digestion, as if it began there so I went to a top gastroenterologist. He told me my digestion was fine (It really wasnt) and I should stop putting so much energy into that and start putting energy into thinking about accepting that I ws going to be bed bound for life and how I might want to cope with that . He told me food didnt make any difference., I could eat that I liked. I explained that I definitely couldnt eat what I liked and had identified some foods that made Mme very sick, I challenged him on this nd he said that they didnt learn anything about the diet in their training. . I could not believe it. I think it can be the same with vets and animals. They are trained to name diseases and give mendications for those diseases, often for life, but not to think about root cause and how to heal that.
(I decided to totally ignore him and I went on to study nutrition partly online, partly inn person when I was well enough and got myself better quite quickly.
The other forum basically say diabetic cats should only be fed wet food low carb. ( I take it further and only feed ingredients I recognise the name of - natural whole foods.). They take lows very seriously in terms of monitoring and feeding but they say when cats are only being fed LC wet food, it is incredibly rare for them to have a seizure. So they recommend testing and feeding every 30 mins mins when under 40, and every 15 mins when LO but to only feed with low carb unless symptomatic. They say the high carb will interrupt the livers healing process/thermostat and set the cats back tremendously. (Their advice does not apply to cats being fed any dry food at all which they say puts the animals in danger and that if they are being fed dry food, hypos are incredibly dangerous states for cats to be in so this advice only applies to cats on lc wet food diets that never get hc)
This was my first intro and its does tie in with my understanding of health as opposed to disease. Marley is doing so much better here with consistent dosing and I hugely appreciate your help. But this one aspect has stuck with me. So I am just sharing why I struggle with the advice for the lows here. I am open to all possibilities and mostly interested in observing, to learn. What I noticed is that the bounce he had today after the HC last night was worse than when I kept to his normal food during a low the day before. I also notice that normally - when I resort to higher carb in a low, he then bounces for a few days. When I didnt resort to higher carb for his low, he went really nicely low in the greens the next day as well. Marley is so precious to me I will always do all that is in my power to keep him safe. And I am going to keep an open mind.........
I dont think I have a choice when it comes to me going out though. I will have to put the higher carb in the feeder. But I might do more observations when I cn monitor closely myself
