Haven’t posted here for months! Loki is doing better these last few weeks, consistent blues. The last two days we’ve had yellows but I’m hoping it goes back down.

I have a question though. His new vial of Lantus for next month was delivered today to my apartment building’s front desk and I never got a call or notification. I called down now to ask if it arrived and it had, but it wasn’t cold when I retrieved it. It’s been sitting unrefrigerated for up to 5 hours. Is it still safe to use or should I contact my pharmacy for a replacement? I also don’t use the vial up within 28 days like most on here, if it makes a difference.

FWIW, as long it was shipped properly and stayed cool, it should be fine. I have left mine out for a few hours by accident and it was okay - others have left it out over night. And I'm not sure many kitties use a vial in 28 days unless they are high dose - I think vials stored in fridge can make it 5-6 months before one might wonder about potency. Have you checked out the Insulin Handling sticky (linked here)? May be worth a read. Hope that helps :bighug:

The vial should be OK to use now, but might not last as long as one that had been in the fridge. Almost no one here uses a vial in 28 days - that instruction is for humans. Another alternative for you to consider is pens. They hold a lot less insulin, and can generally be used to the last drop.
