I think I'm going to pull back on doing as many tests today. I think the constant tests have really been bumming me out and making me anxious because I'll get a lower number and get excited and then it will be higher at the next test and I'll get bummed out. She and I both need a little break. I'll probably get a +2 and +4 and then probably leave her be.

I'm also going to order a Contour Next and start using that for hopefully better consistency in her numbers.

I did go ahead and get a +6. I am kind of wondering if this batch of food she's eating has more carbs than usual. I gave her Tiki Cat (which is VERY low carb) at +2 and her number at +4 was only a bit higher. Then I gave her the regular Friskies pate at +4 and by +6, her number had jumped up to nearly what it was at AMPS. I have noticed that the newest case of cans we opened has a lot more gravy than any previous pate we've gotten but I've been pouring off the gravy in her sister's bowl so she's not getting a bunch of extra carbs from that. The change has me wondering about a formula change or something though. I might switch her to Fancy Feast once we're done with these Friskies cans.

My husband picked up a Contour Next meter on his way home from work but I'm going to wait until tomorrow to use it. I doubt that the ReliOn is the problem there but I'm hoping for some consistency with a new meter at least. Plus, the new meter has a bluetooth feature that will send the reading to my phone so I don't have to go back and check what the number was because I forgot by the time I fed her which happens way too often lol.

I know you don't want to hear this, but I think she needs to go up in dose. :( She is seeing more blues now.

I think @Jackie and Biggie had a similar experience with some food that was raising Biggie's BG. Am I right, Jackie?

Yes, but I didn’t really notice it until his doses got to be a lot smaller- it seemed like that was when the small things started to really make a difference. It was food with potato starch, and I feed other food with the same carb content that does not raise his bg, so it’s a very individual thing. I think the best thing you can do is what you probably are doing- make a note of every food change in the spreadsheet and if something seems to be affecting it you can never go wrong by eliminating that food. It was hard with Biggie though because he already is allergic to chicken, but for most people this is not an issue!

Btw, I also use the Contour Next One and am very happy with it overall. I tried the Relion but it’s a lot less consistent. I’m sure big picture it’s fine, but the Countour is a much better meter. There is a quirk with the Contours that I’ve noticed and have seen others comment on too- when your numbers are low, the strips can sometimes malfunction. I found that if I make sure my hands are clean, no lotions or oils, and even wear a nitrile glove with the hand that touches the strip, then I don’t have that issue as much. You can always use the Relion as a backup if you get repeated errors.
