Hi Everyone,

Very late start today. I spent the whole morning reading up about bile/liver issues in preparation for Rusty's Bile Acid Assay, which we scheduled for 8 a.m. tomorrow. I hope that the elevated GGT value on his last set of labs (in November) was owing to bile sludge clogging the bile duct to the liver. Anyway, we'll see. And thanks to Marje, Linda (Bear Man), and Claudia (cjleo, Rusty's fostermama), I know what to ask the vet and what medication might be prescribed: presumably Ursodiol. But if the test is inconclusive, we might have to go the ultrasound route (which would involve a trip to a specialist in Burlington VT and having to have Rusty's belly shaved--in WINTER). I hope there is a simple explanation for Rusty's weight loss (1 1/2 lbs. since last spring).
So tonight Rusty has to fast after dinner for 12 hours. Then he will have the first blood test. Then he will eat breakfast at the vet's. Then, 2 hours after breakfast, he will have the second blood test.
Vines and good wishes are appreciated.

Tonight our "film group" is seeing another Werner Herzog film. I fear it will be as depressing as the one last week! Rusty will have to be finished with his dinner before 8 p.m. because we need to fast him for the full 12 hours. This will put a crimp in his evening "dinner routine" (eating it on the couch beginning at 9 p.m. and stretching it out until 11 p.m.)

We got Rusty to eat almost all of his dinner and we have about a half hour to go. But I want to get him to eat the rest before our friends arrive for the movie. At the moment he has claimed his chair for the performance-- the best seat in the house!
@Vyktors Mum: Your mum is so sweet. But I hope it doesn't come to that!!

Be back after the show. Thanks for the vines and well wishes. I think the vet will do The IDEXX SNAP test. It apparently is as accurate as the Hitachi. The vet has the SNAP machine, so the results should be almost immediate.
 
Ella, sending tons and tons of vines for tomorrow- I hope you can get some clear answers to Rusty's weight loss and elevated GGT level. :bighug::bighug::bighug:We are probably looking at US pretty soon as well, it's concerning! I think I will read up on the Bile Assay Test you are referring to!

It just cracks me up how Rusty claims the best seat in the house on the night of your gatherings- Sir Rusty has arrived!!! :joyful::joyful::joyful:

The LagoonMeister is hungry! Rusty is NEVER motivated by food, but tonight he missed his dinner routine (grazing from 9 to 11 P.M.) and right now is sitting in front of the mat where we put his nighttime food. The only thing there is the bowl of water!

I don't know whether to give him his shot tomorrow morning. I'm inclined to give a BCS (maybe .25 of a unit; his normal shot is .75) if he is high enough, but otherwise we'll skip. He'll be getting his breakfast about 2 hours late, at the vet's. I'm to bring his food along. Then, after he eats, he has to wait 2 hours to have the second part of the test.

Thanks for thinking of us. Will report tomorrow.

Don worry Rusty Ize saved you sum good fuds and a whole bottle of my gum leaf likor - you can bath in it to get the vetty smell off ;) - Vyktor
