Posting a quick update here at lunch. The dental went great. Took her in at 7:30 and got her picked upby 10:30. Vet said her teeth all looked really good. X-rays looked good as well. No extractions, just cleaning. So doesn’t sound like this was the cause of the IAA, but I will monitor to be sure any reduced inflammation doesn’t drop her.

She is a million times better without that zorbium, she’s basically back to her normal self now. Super relieved it is over, even if it doesn’t give any answers about the IAA. I wouldn’t have wanted her to be dealing with bad dental issues anyway.

Thanks so much for all your support yesterday!

@Heike & BInie : looks like it averaged about $45 a poke. Maybe I’ll start moonlighting as a cat poker :rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

It is good news that her teeth are fine. One less thing to worry about. I'm glad to hear she recovered well this time. I see you also got her nails trimmed. :) What did Blair think of the vetty smell?

As expected:
As far as BCSs go, keep in mind that with IAA you are more likely to see the effects in the cycle following the cycle of the BCS.

Yup! All your great advice is playing out. No charge for the nail trim believe it or not (it may have been for their own protection :D). It is so funny when they tell me how angry and spicy Bell gets with them. I have never ever seen that from her at home. She is so nice to me. Part of me is proud of her for getting a little spicy :p

When Bell is within smelling distance of Blair, Blair starts making these guttural yowls and then hisses. Bell just calmly stares at her and doesn’t move haha. She’ll get over it

Wendy, since we’ve ruled out issues in bloodwork, a UTI, and maybe a dental causing the IAA, does that mean we haven’t found the source yet? Or could the IAA be unrelated to an infection/inflammation?

Yayyyyyyyy !!! Great news Seth. Glad the dental is over and no issues.

Minner has (knock on wood) no other health issues besides diabetes, normal bloodwork (except glucose) yet has IAA. I thought it could be ideopathic. I also wonder if her pancreas is working just fine but the IAA makes the insulin produced ineffective. I also wonder if she has always had the IAA and over time her pancreas wore out b/c the insulin it produces can’t get job done.

Sooo glad all went well for Bell. Wonderful news. Hope she can just rest and feel back to normal.
I laughed at her being spicy.
It does seem hard to believe

I’m sure you will both rest well tonight with that behind you :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Hi Seth, super happy, Bell is well and there was not much to do. I am sure, being a professional cat poker, is an interesting party topic. :p Hope you find answers for the IAA topic soon. :bighug::bighug::bighug:

IAA is a response to injected insulin. But you are right that it can be idiopathic. The majority of cases I've seen have been along with something else but now you don't have to worry about anything else in addition. Just get her regulated again and heal the pancreas so it can do more of the heavy lifting regarding insulin and less injected insulin is needed.

Seth I'm so glad the cleaning went well and she didn't need any extractions. Look how peacefully she's resting. I'm sure she so happy to be home

Thank you Wendy, I think that is the biggest relief out of all this. I can focus on one thing now and that thing, altho a bit scary with the high insulin dosage, is something I’m more comfortable with now thanks to this place.

Edit: I reread what Wendy wrote in response to you and it sounds like my thinking out loud was way off track. Editing that out since I don’t want to confuse folks.

Thank you so much for watching out for Bell, Laura. I am relying on Minner to show Bell the way!

I thought of Ivy when the vet said how feisty she was. (Silent cheer)

She was soooooo happy to be home. And she didn’t have any of that awful “stoned” look or restlessness like the last few dentals. Besides a few coughs from her irritated throat, and her super high BG, so is perfectly able to normal. It is a relief

I am grateful to not be alone and a super one-off … you do have to admit it’s really really coincidental that IAA only is already rather uncommon, and then here we are with our gals who were diagnosed with diabetes within days of each other last July and both have IAA only and are on high doses in 7-8 range.

Minner having a little setback right now. I’ll post her thread shortly.
