Well, Zener is feeling MUCH, MUCH better last night and this morning. We are wondering if aliens switched our cat.  He is making the "less worry" part of my new year's resolution very easy. For today, anyway. Last night, about 5 pm, he started asking for food and started eating and kept eating all evening. He is eating well this morning too. YAY! He even came in about an hour before shot, asking for food, and got on my chest for petting and purring. That hasn't happened for a while. :-D :-D
We are transitioning to the Relion Mini meter (same as Arkray, not Arkway as I wrote before) from the Alpha Trak. There is reasonable agreement between the two. Thank you to Zener for being so patient with getting two tests. And we got kind of a big drop at +1 so gave some honey and will retest in an hour.

At yoga class yesterday (I almost didn't go!), I saw a nurse practitioner friend who said Anne should take mucinex to help drain the stuff in her ears (luckily we had some). She started feeling much better last night, not as dizzy and the buzzing was going away! Yay! We'll see what the doc says this morning. She may be back online soon!

Thinking of Isil and Tifil and sending healing energy to Tifil and strength to Isil to deal with this crisis. Big hugs for both of you.
Happy Monday, LL!
Liz

Re: 1/2 Zener AMPS 357;+1 303 A Trak

I'm so glad Zener is feeling better. A good appy is a great sign for him! I hope the honey keeps him in the sweet spot !

Good tip from you friend. I hope Anne is 100% before the day is out.

Re: 1/2 Zener AMPS 357;+1 303 A Trak

YAY!, and way to go Zener on the fuds thing - good job! :-D :-D

Nice that the new meter is comparable to the old - that has to be helpful

I hoe Anne is better soon too. nice tip from your friend. I will have to remember that one.

Enjoy your day today - and Zener: think yellow, maybe some blues too. :-D

Re: 1/2 Zener AMPS 357;+1 303 A Trak

Hi guys .. love hearing that zener is eating better for you .. Less worry this year? Let me know how that works out, I'd love to try it myself! I hope that Anne continues to feel better throughout the day .. have a great day guys!

Re: 1/2 Zener AMPS 357;+1 303 A Trak

Hi Liz, I am amazed that the numbers between the two meters are so close. I'll have to check out the Relion Mini. I have the Relion Micro as a back-up, and there's a variance of 25-30% between the two. I had bronchitis really bad one year and had trouble breathing, and the NP told me to take Mucinex DM, and a world of difference right away. So glad it working for Anne's condition, and she is feeling better. Have a nice day.

Re: 1/2 Zener AMPS 357;+1 303;+2.5 231 A Trak

Good news that Anne is starting to feel better, I hope that continues. I too am amazed at how close your two meters have been, that is just great. Great to hear that Zener is eating well - good news all around in this condo! Have a great day Liz & Anne!

Re: 1/2 Zener AMPS 357;+1 303;+2.5 231;+6 (Rel mini 147) A T

Good afternoon, guys! Glad to hear the mucinex is working and Anne is starting to feel better!

The Relion typically will run 30 points or so lower than an AT. The thing is, when you're in the pink numbers, the 20% margin of error creates a wide range of accuracy for both meters... a 350 would mean an actual BG range of somewhere between 280 and 420 on a single meter...and then trying to match up a second meter in that range? EEPS! I'm a fan of the Relion/Arkray meters. The mini and the confirm use the same strips... the only real difference is the size of the meter and the amount of history it can store.

If you are at all on the fence, I'd suggest running the comparison when Zman is cruising the greens. Because the margin of error is so much tighter (a 100 is somewhere between 80 and 120), it is much easier to determine the true difference.

Hope Zener's numbers continue to head downward!

Re: 1/2 Zener AMPS 357;+1 303;+2.5 231;+6 (Rel mini 147) A T

Glad to hear Anne and Zener are both feeling better! I use the ReliOn meter adn Arkray strips and I've ben happy so far. What a good guy to be so patient with the extra tests!!

Re: 1/2 Zener AMPS 357;+1 303;+2.5 231;+6 (Rel mini 147) A T

Anne, back from cyber wasteland, and still dizzy but better. Thanks to Lizbean for doing it all the past 84+ hours! And thanks to all in LL for the healing vines! :YMHUG:

I've put up a new SS for 2012 since we are switching meters and a link to our previous 2011 SS. Paws crossed I did it right. I can probably use the "but I'm dizzy" excuse from the Labyrinthitis for a bit, since the symptoms may persist for several more weeks! Holy dizzy moly! I am better with less buzzing in my ears, which sure beats "the voices".

We just realized we had the names of the meters all confused. We are using the Arkray mini meter - which is the same as the Relion micro, so we shall refer to it from now on as the Relion micro since that is most familiar to everyone! The Arkray strips, which we bought through American Diabetes Wholesale online, can be used in either the Relion micro or confirm and the Relion meters and the Arkray meters are the same. Whew.... We sure like the Alpha Trak and would like to stay with it, but with the amount of testing we've been doing, it's just getting too expensive.

Today
Alpha Trak to Relion Micro switch
1/2/2012
AMPS 357 (Relion micro 342), 6th cycle at 1.5u, 1.6oz 8%
+1 303 (Relion micro 274), 0.6oz 8%, 2 drops honey, 1/4 PP, 2.5mg pepcid
+2.5 231 (Relion micro 186), 0.6oz 8%, 2 drops honey
+3.5 171 relion micro, 0.6oz 8%
+6 147 relion micro, 0.60z 8%
+7 0.1mL Bupe, FDCK

Our vet called mid morning to tell us the FPL test for Zener's pancreas was normal and we could continue the bupe to control pain. She was out of ideas for what could be causing his pain. So, we are taking him to see another vet in town for a second opinion on Friday. The vet is relatively new to town and has a "feline interest", so we shall see what suggestions she has for us. The vet works out of the clinic in town that is the emergency clinic with 24 hours and weekend service, so it will be good to visit there before we might someday have to use their emergency services. nailbite_smile We hate to keep giving him narcotics and then have to send him to Betty Ford's feline rehab center.

@Linda - Liz has been reading me condos everyday while I was "visually restricted". Thanks for all your support! I'm not quite 100% and may not be for several weeks, but I am better!

@Michelle - We are more relieved by his eating than his numbers! Zener must be reading his condo again and is following your instructions to blue!

@Devon -   We will definitely keep you informed on our "less worry" progress, and hope you have a good trial with it too!

@Ann & Maggie - oops, our mistake, it is the "generic" Relion micro we are using. The Arkray mini and the Relion micro are the same meter. Thanks for the info on the meter variance. We've decided to just make the switch. I'm using the Mucinex that does not have Pseudofed in it - that stuffs sends me to the ceiling!

@Melissa & Bailey - we suspect we'll see some differences at the lower numbers, but the main thing is, we just need to make the change and stick with it! :?

@Celi - perhaps option #1 for Zener and option #2 for me!

@Christie - it was on your condo that we read about the Relion/Arkray meters and strips, and the cost savings. We're no longer on the fence and making the switch today. Zener is following your directions to blue! Thanks for the information on the meters, it was really helpful in making our decision. :-D

@Jaq - thanks for the info on your experience with these strips and meter. We have "officially" made the switch!

Re: 1/2 Zener AMPS 357;+1 303;+2.5 231;+6 (Rel mini 147) A T

Great news on the appy!!! That is a huge relief.

I use the Arkray and love it. I order the strips from ADW through mrrebates. It is cheaper to get the 200 strips plus meter for around $42 before the rebate. You stockpile meters but i send then to DCIN or find someone who needs then. Its just cheaper with a meter. I paid that much for 50 strips on the contour.

When in doubt take Mucinex. it is amazing how much it can help. So glad Anne is feeling better.

Re: 1/2 Zener AMPS 357;+1 303;+2.5 231;+6 (Rel mini 147) A T

Liz asked if Weezer used to hang out in the master suite before dx. Yes. We built our house and moved in when the master suite was all that was finished. She hated the construction noise, so it was her refuge. By the time the rest of he house was finished, Doobie (civie) had come along. She detests him, so now the master suite is her sanctuary from him!

Re: 1/2 Zener PMPS 227

A nice sunny yellow PM start. No more ATrak in the subject line, the switch to the relion micro is complete.
Today
Alpha Trak to Relion Micro switch
1/2/2012
AMPS 357 (Relion micro 342), 6th cycle at 1.5u, 1.6oz 8%
+1 303 (Relion micro 274), 0.6oz 8%, 2 drops honey, 1/4 PP, 2.5mg pepcid
+2.5 231 (Relion micro 186), 0.6oz 8%, 2 drops honey
+3.5 171 relion micro, 0.6oz 8%
+6 147 relion micro, 0.60z 8%
+7 0.1mL Bupe, FDCK
+9.5 3/4PP with 3mg Zobaline, FDCK
PMPS 227, 7th cycle @1.5u, 1.4oz 8%

@Melissa & Mr T - yes, better appy is such a huge relief. Thanks for the positive review on the Arkray. I learned about the rebates and ADW in LL. I'll be searching for the strips + meter combo to save even more! :-D

@Linda - Liz will be reading Zener's condo shortly and will see your answer to her questions about the master suite and kitty sanctuary!

Paws crossed I got the new SS for 2012 going, and signature and profile update to reflect meter switch. It will take Liz and I a few days to make the switch between colors/numbers from the Alpha Trak to the human meter. Please let me know if there is something I forgot or isn't working correctly, since I am still a bit dizzy (or more dizzy than usual is probably more accurate) ;-)

The three days of visual free stimuli was helpful and a challenge! The prognosis for viral labryinthitis is good, but I still need to rest often when I get dizzy. It may take weeks for the symptoms to completely resolve. :o

Re: 1/2 Zener PMPS 227

Hi Anne welcome back!!!!
Great to see such a sunny PM for Zener.

Bad news though- your 2012 SS link doesn't seem to be working (for me anyhow)

Re: 1/2 Zener PMPS 227

Anne, I'm so glad you are feeling a little better and thanks to Liz for doing such a great job over the last few days. It is nice that the two of you can always tag team with each other.

Also happy to hear Zener's appy is better. I use the Relion confirm and it seems to work pretty well for me. It was very similar to the Bayer Contour and the strips are so much less.

Have a great evening!

Re: 1/2 Zener PMPS 227

So glad to see you back Anne!! Hope you don't overdo it.

How exciting to see Zener feeling better and eating!! Good boy!!! And he got into some nice blues with his new meter today. Very nice that it is about what you would expect in difference with the AT.

Hope you all are having a lovely post NY's day and will have a peaceful evening with Zener pigging out!

Re: 1/2 Zener PMPS 227

I'm so glad to hear both Zener and Anne are feeling better now! I hope the new vet has an answer for you about what could be causing Zener pain.

To answer the question Liz posted in Trix's condo...I think eBates and MrRebates are pretty comparable, altough to be honest I only belong to eBates and have no MrRebates experience. I think I'll have to check it out, though!

Have a great evening!!!

~Amy

Re: 1/2 Zener PMPS 227;+1 293;+2 197

Liz and I were sort of bummed to see his BG up so much at +1, then :o to see his +2 value. Guess it was a food spike at +1, the big guy is eating better!
PMPS 227, 7th cycle @1.5u, 1.4oz 8%
+1 293, 0.6oz 8%
+2 197, 0.8oz 8% + 1 drop honey

We are back to our science experiments post-dental to try to flatten out the curves, then bring the whole curve down. So, after seeing a 30 point drop from PMPS to +2, we are trying a drop of honey with his mini meals. Sienne advised us that honey has a lower glycemic index and acts a bit slower. I know some of you use karo and wondered what or if there is a difference in regular karo and a light organic corn syrup?

@Georgia - we feel very fortunate to have a tag team. After one of us is away and the other is sole bean in charge for a few days, we so appreciate the work that single beans do with their kitties each and every day! :-D Thanks for your review of the Relion meter.

@Marje - thanks for all your support and I will take it under advisement to not overdo it! You know me well and haven't even met me! And yes, we are seeing some lovely blues with the new meter. We are so relieved he is eating better.

@Amy - I've read about both eBates and MrRebates and seen great as well as mixed reviews for both. I learned about Mr Rebates here in LL. Gosh, we've learned about almost everything FD related here in LL! :YMHUG:

I am trying to take Marje's advice and not overdo it, so for now I'm getting updates on condo and SS put up. Hopefully I'll be able to join Liz in visiting more condos in the next few days.

Hope everyone survived the exit of 2011 and the entrance of 2012 in fine feline fashion!

Re: 1/2 Zener PMPS 227;+1 293;+2 197;+3 202

Looking good tonight, Zener! So glad to see you back Anne... hope your recovery is a speedy one!

I use both Mr. Rebates and Ebates... and occasionally even fat wallet. I've found all three to work fine, though I know on certain sites, you do have to be careful as a coupon code acquired somewhere other than their site can invalidate the cashback. Also, if you want to use cashback, don't do the autoship discount... they won't let you have both. ADW has been a godsend for us as well. Willie started on the AT when diagnosed (vet insisted it was my only option), but it just got to be too much of an expense... and hassle if we were out of town, etc. I love that if say, a cat were to dump an entire water bottle on a meter, I'm out $9 from either the Walmart up the street, or the 24 hr one a few miles away. Same with strips... it isn't ADW cheap, but they are still extremely reasonable in store.

Okay, off to bed for us! have a great night!

Here's the nightly report, with new meter in place. It feels a bit strange not to type A Trak in the subject line! I'm sure we will adjust. ;-)
PMPS 227, 7th cycle @1.5u, 1.4oz 8%
+1 293, 0.6oz 8%
+2 197, 0.8oz 8% + 1 drop honey
+3 202, 0.9oz 8%
+5 163, 0.9oz 8%

Guess the honey did the trick on stopping the +2 express train?
Zener is having a nice cycle with yellows and blues and is eating well, so we are very happy beans tonight.

@Christie - thanks for your kind words. I spent very little time on the computer, reading or watching tv this evening and am feeling better. This reduced visual stimulation is heck for an academic! I am enjoying listening to Girl with the Dragon Tattoo on audiobooks on my iPad and that really helps pass the time! Fat wallet is a new one for me, may have to check it out. You were our contact for finding Mr Rebates and Arkray and we are so glad to know about them. :-D

Ni Ni LL! I-)
