I will soon be switching Frank to Lantus. I found the coupon for 5 free Lantus pens, which I am grateful for.

I would love to use the pens, but now I am wondering about the increments on the pens. Are the pens only in whole increments, not half increments? With Vetsulin, (what Frank is using now) I have given him 1/2 units. Can you do the same with Lantus pens? The lines on the Lantus syringes are closer than those of the Vetsulin syringes....can you dose out 1/2 units on the Lantus syringes?

We don't use the pens with the cartridges here. We use normal syringes and treat the cartridge as a small vial

Yes, you can dose in half units or less. The diameter of the barrel of the U100 syringe is smaller, yes.
Some doses are .25 and even .10u. which is a tiny, tiny drop for the last dose before OTJ. (Off the Juice)

As Heather said; Draw insulin from the pen or cartridge using your syringes just as if drawing from a small vial.
The pharmacy may try to sell the needles that go with the pen, but you do NOT need them.

Use U100 syringes with 1/2 unit markings.
You may have to order the 1/2 unit marked syringes, but I believe Walmart carries them as do some drug stores.
I ordered from Hocks.com--- 31 Gauge, 3/10cc, 5/16" short needle, Half unit markings.
