WCR: I'm not sure, I think the high numbers are getting to it. He's laying in spots he normally doesn't lay in, so I'm still trying to decide what I think about that. I've been trying but have been unsuccessful at catching him in the litter box to check for ketones.

When I need to get a urine test in for Maverick I used to put the top of the litterbox on backwards so he couldn't use it. I wouldn't wait too long, but I'd make him wait. If I saw him going to that area I'd watch to see if he was going up to the box. I'd then take the lid off. It almost always worked.'

I'm sorry you are getting these numbers. With Willows history I'd really try and get a sample. Hugs.

sorry, jordan...cant remember if this has been discussed her before...

but have you seen the Breeze style litterboxes or anything similar? they make ketone testing really easy...and for binks...it's like not really having an LB in the house...simple to clean daily..
the other two cats have a regular LB...but binks digs his Breeze (pardon the pun)

I agree with Celi.. the Breeze is the ABSOLUTE BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OOOH I didn't even know they existed. Would it work for a big cat like a Main Coon? He needs a big litter box. Actually, Nevermind. I see the really low enterance way, Maverick's pee would go right out and onto the floor. Thats why we ditched his old litter box. Men! (actually arthritis lol)

Willow has this fun way of avoiding going potty completely if he even thinks I'm thinking about going to test for ketones (most likely due to excessive testing when he was so sick). He's going to be the death of me!

I've never heard of the Breeze litter system. Not sure if I could get him to potty on the pelleted litter, plus he peepees on the walls of the litter box. Dunno, it might be worth a try though.
