Hope I didn't wreck the Lantus. The vial dropped to the floor to my horror a couple of days ago and no floaties or cloudiness... but Nelson's numbers have steadily been going up since his spike the other day. He hasn't had an AMPS much over the low 200s since I started testing BG. I know he's not getting any contraband.

Re: 1/19 Nelson AMPS 282

Lord Nelson must like this number range, similar to last nite's PMPS, hope he comes down to blue soon for u...
let's see how his day goes, and what feedback u get today on that rise.

Have a good day Bridget :)

Re: 1/19 Nelson AMPS 282

OK, I'm not going to do anything, just be patient and keep testing. I will do a BG out the door. It may also be the skinny 1 I shot the other day if it messed up his shed.

Nelson loved this morning's menu. Can't say that for everyone, since I still have a hard core dry food addict and another one who isn't really sure about this wet food thing. The one who wasn't sure licked a bunch of it off my fingers so he'll be ok--he just has to associate wet food with food rather than with the stuff I've been putting on top of his food. That guy was the one who got stones late last year and was put on c/d, but I'm taking him off c/d dry to an exclusively wet diet. I'll see how his urine is and will put him on a urinary wet if needed, but wet food alone may do the trick.

Then we have the k/d kitty but I'm going to make sure everyone else is 100% converted to wet before I tackle her, since she's even more of a dry food addict and will take lots of work, plus I have to figure out what wet food is ok for her to eat (she is not a CRF kitty but she has to eat essentially the same diet. She can't eat urinary diets because her urine tends to be too acidic as it is). She eats in a separate closed room and I pull her food whenever she gets let out of "jail" so no one else gets to it.

Re: 1/19 Nelson AMPS 282

yup patience is key! ugh...I hated patience lol but it all comes together nicely.

have u checked the nutrition links for tips on the other kitties nutrition and transition to wet food?

I'm adding this link for u that lists the most common nutrition links here at FDMB.

Re: 1/19 Nelson AMPS 282

You are really doing great here..The yellow numbers you are getting can turn into nicer bg's during the day.
Moonie usually starts off on yellow 200's, but goes green sometime during the day, which is fine with me.
This all takes patience & perseverence..It will come..
Sounds like you have a lot going on there with all the kitties cat_pet_icon !
And NO you didnt wreck the lantus!! It's just fine--I can see the horror on your face, as it has been mine many times  Lord Nelson is doing just fine..Have a great day & hope you see some blue or green today!

Re: 1/19 Nelson AMPS 282, +2 247

Had a drop at +2 so will be patient. I just was getting so encouraged by all the nice blue numbers! Will go home for lunch and see how he's doing then.

And yes, saw all the links about transitioning the kitties. DH is pretty bad about giving kitties dry as treats. Especially Cosette, who his his BAABY and is a totally spoiled diva. That's probably why she is such a dry food addict, more so than the others who he doesn't dote upon. He knows not to let Nelson have any but the others, well... Nelson won't eat dry anyway unless there is absolutely no wet which is a very good thing. But once we are out of dry, we are out! And whatever dry had been out I was pulling so that the only stuff left after they eat is wet. BTW, what dry we do have left (Wellness CORE, so not the worst in the world) is in one of those rubber sealed plastic containers that are supposedly insect proof (I got it more to keep the food fresher since CORE tends to go bad quickly). Nothing is out in a bag where they can get to it or smell it.

Pixel, the unsure kitty went back and ate his wet breakfast once he realized how good it was. And Muffin, the k/d kitty went and had some as well after she got let out of jail. I almost shooed her away but thought, no, she needs to learn that wet is good even if it isn't the most optimal stuff yet. She won't develop urate stones overnight... in fact, it took her several years last time so I think she'll be ok. :-D

Re: 1/19 Nelson AMPS 282, +2 247

Well, food issues are a big thing in your life with all the needs of all the kitties...LOL
You seem to have a handle on it though...if DH would just toughen up a little but they are usually
so easy to manipulate, right?
Moving along and doing great! Great WCR....loved it! :-D

Re: 1/19 Nelson AMPS 282, +2 247, PMPS 225

Well, not the blues I was seeing a few days ago, but better than yesterday!

And my cats would like Fancy Feast, wouldn't they! They've decided that the stuff that's in the itty bitty cans is MUCH better than the stuff in the 12 oz cans. Or even than the stuff in the 5.5 oz cans. But no, they want to see me open 13 teensy cans of cat food in the morning before I've even had a single cup of coffee. Come on! ohmygod_smile

They may start bribing you for the FF!!

With regard to dose, sometimes numbers bobble around for a while. With Lantus, there isn't a steady decrease in numbers. Rather, it's a bit of a dance trying to find the right dose. In some cases, dose is increased, then decreased, then increased again. It's all very individual. The blues in Nelson's SS might indicate he's getting some action off of this dose and it needs to be held for a bit. One of the more experienced people will be by and may be able to determine if it's time for an increase.
