We got the auto feeder yesterday and it seems to be working fine. He doesn't seem to be bothered by it since he ate all his food from last night. He was able to pull it away from the wall across some carpet. Not sure why he did that though. Tonight he goes to the vet for a follow up.

Re: 1/19 Hobbs AMBG 81 - Vet tonight

lol probably looking for a way to get it to hand over more nom-noms.

Good luck at the vet's tonight I would print out his spreadsheet and take it with you just so you can prove what beautiful numbers he has been getting. :-D

Yeah I'm going to print his spreadsheet and a few reports to bring in case they decide to argue with me about why I took him off the Rx food and changed his dose. They might not but I want to be prepared just in case!

Never hurts to prepare for the worst and hope for the best! I went through 3 vets before I found the one I have now with my first FD girl, so while losing her was hard on the heart a lot of good came from it...I found FDMB and a terrific new vet, and then finally my two sweet babies Maxwell & Musette.

Wow...look at those numbers! Beautiful! Give it another week or so of testing, but it looks like you have a diet controlled kitty! :-D

Bandit destroyed 2 auto feeders (including the PetSafe 5!) before I finally found one that he couldn't break into. As far as I know, though, he is the only kitty here that was ever able to rip the PetSafe apart successfully. If Hobbs turns out to be trouble and does get into it, send me a PM and I'll send you a link to the feeder we have now--it's Bandit-proof. We've been using it for 4 years now, and it's still going strong. :-)

If Hobbs figures out how to rotate the tray with his paws to get at the food early, try putting it in the next tray and setting the feeder to go off twice closer to his meal time. That's the more common way a few cats break into their food early with that feeder, but it's pretty rare except for more determined cats. Like I said, Bandit is the only cat I know of who actually tore the thing apart.

Re: 1/19 Hobbs AMBG 81 - Vet tonight

If that little bugger rips apart a $50 feeder then he's going to have a bigger problem than where his next meal is coming from!!! LOL

The Pet Safe 5 is what I got (at least it was on sale). I heard that the 2 model was easily pulled apart by dogs and determined cats. I could see Hobbs getting that one apart. The 5, I'm not sure of. It looks sturdy but he'd broken things before I didn't think he'd be able to. When I'm home I'm feeding him in his regular dish. I don't want him to think that the big thing always is hiding food, nor do I want him to get acne again that he seems to get from plastic dishes.

Re: 1/19 Hobbs AMBG 81 - Vet tonight

Back when I got Bandit's feeders, they were still kind of a novelty so they were a lot more expensive. The first feeder he destroyed was $80!!! I think I paid $70 something for the PetSafe. The third feeder (and winner) was $60 generic feeder from China that I found on Ebay (which is now less than half of what I paid for it back in 2008: http://www.amazon.com/Automatic-Fee...play/dp/B001EMXWLM/?tag=felinediabetesfdmb-20). It's funny that the feeder with the worst rating on amazon ended up working great for us! I also liked that you could record your voice....at the time I had two cats, and if you're trying to feed multiple cats with synced feeders and one is a hoover like Bandit and will eat everything in sight, it's vital that they both show up for meals at the same time! Gabby would only come running for food when she heard my dinner/treat call. Bandit stalks the kitchen if he even suspects food might be there.

I make little "dishes" from aluminum foil and use those to hold his food in the plastic tray. Partly because I know it's not a bad idea to avoid eating from plastic, and partly because I'm too lazy to take apart the feeder and wash it after every feeding. :-)

ohmygod_smile I think I turned my brain off recently. You'd think this would have occurred to me since my DH insists on putting aluminum foil over even cookie sheets for the same reason. Cleaning, not acne.

Re: 1/19 Hobbs AMBG 81 +11 77 - Vet tonight

Plus eleven! Seventy-seven! It rhymes!! LOL I took a +11 before the vet appt. It might shoot up at the vet so I wanted something more realistic.

LOL You catch on fast. :thumbup That is exactly what I do before I have to take either Maxwell or Musette into the vet. Love those time stamps on the meter too! Can't argue with success. :-D

Back from the vet! It went really well. First, we saw one of the regular vets, Dr. J. She's been seeing him all along for the CKD and now the diabetes. I prefer her or Dr. G. I didn't care for the one we saw last time. Anyway, Dr. J was super happy with his number recently, is totally OK with his diet (though she's going to check with the specialist about something), and called me an "ideal client." She wants me to change him back to 2x day feeding at least for now. She wants me to do a curve this weekend and give her call on Monday with the numbers. The 2x day feeding would be so she can see what his nadir and zenith would be on a regular feeding schedule while off the insulin. So OK through the weekend I guess we can live with that. Anyway I'm super happy how it went and that she didn't argue with me about anything. WOOHOO!!

Great to hear this kind of news for you and Hobbs, Sabrina! Such wonderful nondiabetic numbers for Hobbs on the 19th.
