Nice solid start to the day. He took a dip last night, but bounced back quickly. I'll see what he does today; I'm hesitant to give another reduction so soon after the last, but if he keeps dropping into the 40s we'll need to.

We can tell he's getting healthier; every day there are more signs of the "old" Bennie. I suspect that the low numbers last night may have been due to him being more active - he was actually chasing and pouncing on a favorite toy. Nothing near as wild as before he got sick, but more vigorous than we've seen for awhile.

ETA: 190 at +3; wondering if his AM shot actually got into him (Scott administers the shot, so it's hard for me to judge). This is the highest he's ever been at this point in the cycle. Will continue to monitor.

253 @ +6 - I'm almost certain now that this morning's shot didn't get into him. I guess we'll just ride it out till his PM shot, I just hate seeing number this high when he's been on such a good run.

Can you sniff the injection site? Should be obvious smell if it was a fur shot. if no smell, it's possible Benny went even lower last night. It's best to test for a couple hours after feeding high carb food, as the carbs can wear off and they can come back down again. Looks like you last tested just 1/2 hour after the low.

I would take the reduction to 0.75 units. I think Benny wants less juice.

Thanks for the feedback! I didn't know I could detect insulin by the smell - can you describe what kind of smell I should be looking for? I'll be testing vigilantly after his PM shot tonight - since it's not a work night I can stay up a little later. I didn't test again last night because his pattern after a low is that once he starts climbing, he continues to go up, so I felt comfortable letting it go. If he hits another low, we'll take him down to 0.75 - I agree, I think he's ready for it.

It smells kinda like bandaids ... very strong. If you expel some excess onto papertowel, you can smell that so you know what to err smell for? lol

The smell lasts a while, you should still be able to smell it a bit tonight, if there.
Poor Benny, he can’t figure out what Mama is doing to him! I just sniffed the scruff of his neck, and there is a faint smell of Band-Aid, so I’ll mark this as a fur shot.

Thanks again for the help!

One thing to do also, is smell immediately after shot, and if you don't smell anything, smell later, to see if he is one to have a tiny bit of insulin "leak" out. It would be a minuscule amount, but that stuff stinks! Rhubarb sometimes smelled of insulin later in the day despite knowing for a fact it was not a fur shot.
