Triton spent the day at the hospital yesterday to run bloodwork and urinalysis. He was a bit hydrated and they gave him fluids. He didn't want to eat at the vet and it might have been stress. When we got home he went straight the his bowl and started to eat. I was so happy because I wanted to give him his dose of insulin.

He didn't eat any of his food from the timed feeder overnight so I suspect he didn't eat anything at all overnight.

Today in the morning I gave him a whole can and a half of FF Pate and he was taking his time to eat it. He ate it all! I gave him his full dose of insulin 1.25.

When I checked for ketones via a ketone blood meter it read HI. 3.3 - 4 hours later, 1.9 - 2 hours after.

Please advise what should I do. I already called the vet but they are advising to wait until tests come back.

Overall he is eating but not drinking/urinating as much.
 
Can you make his food really soupy by adding water? Maybe put out some plain pure chicken stock or other tasty thing to drink. When the vet calls, see if they think you should do fluids. They can help flush out ketones. In the mean time, keep offering watery food.

I am glad the ketone numbers are coming down.

Triton is now eating his last snack for this cycle. I did give him some more with water as you suggested. He is eating it. I am so happy his appetite is back.

The vet gave me a appetite stimulant to give to him every 48 hours. He had one yesterday so he won't need one until tomorrow. Its Mitrazipine, something like that. Do you think I should give him his next dose tomorrow?

Also, tomorrow I will do an official curve. Do you think I should consider holding his current dose? Or should I hold or increase based on the results.

With the skipped shot yesterday morning, the depot was depleted, so tomorrow you won't get a good picture of what the dose can do. Could you delay that curve to Sunday? With ketones in the picture, I would be inclined to increase, if the numbers tell you to.

Well I got the results back from the vet. It does looks like he has some bacteria in his urine. So the antibiotics will do good for him. One of his kidney values were a little bit elevated (2 points from normal). They said that he may be showing early signs of kidney failure but that it is not a concern for now. They are recommending another full check in 3 months.
 
Was an SDMA included in the labs? It's a test that is predictive of kidney disease. I'm guessing you edited your spreadsheet and took out the page where you can enter labs. You could PM Marje & Gracie and ask her to add it back and then enter the labs from yesterday.

With a UTI, please be careful regarding ketones. The basic recipe for ketones is an infection or inflammation + not enough insulin + not enough calories. Do NOT skip a shot if you can avoid it. Ketones can develop into a very legitimate medical emergency very quickly.

By the way, his urine sample came back negative for ketones. However when I test at home with a ketone meter they are elevated. His ketone levels are up and down. He is currently at 2.6.

The good news is that he is eating.

Another thing - may or may not be strange but he seems to want to go outside for a little bit. He cries at the front of the door to let him out. Is it ok to let him go outside every once and while?
 
It is dangerous to go out for a diabetic, especially one prone to ketones. What if he got scared and lost? He wouldn’t get his food or insulin. we have seen more than one kitty stealing the neighbours high carb food too.
