Surfing blues so far - and hoping it continues!!!! No difference in the WCR today though :YMSIGH:

I've been doing some research on how to better help Yoda's stomatitis and came across a few articles mentioning the use of CoQ10 - they also say that it is good for diabetic pets. Hmmmmm..... will be doing more reading and may try adding that too :dizcat

A human article: http://www.diabetesselfmanagement.com/B ... have_come/
History aside, CoQ10 plays an important role both in energy generation in the body and as an antioxidant. If you recall, antioxidants help to mop up free radicals, harmful substances that can damage cell membranes and cell DNA. It’s thought that damage from free radicals can lead to a whole host of various problems, including heart disease, cancer, and Type 2 diabetes.

CoQ10 supplementation is used primarily in the treatment of cardiovascular diseases such as elevated cholesterol levels, high blood pressure, congestive heart failure, cardiomyopathy, mitral valve prolapse, coronary artery bypass surgery, and angina. Considerable scientific studies have validated these uses.2-4 CoQ10 has also been shown to be helpful in diabetes; periodontal disease; immune deficiency; cancer; as a weight-loss aid; and muscular dystrophy. Since the response of CoQ10 can take time, a noticeable improvement might not occur until 8 or more weeks after therapy is begun.

Pet article:

Diabetics are commonly reported to be deficient in coenzyme Q10, and benefit from its supplementation.

Looks like it might help with Oscar's high cholesterol level too.

Also reading that the gel cap form is more bio-available than the powdered form since it likes to be mixed with a fat/oil base for it to be absorbed the best.

I'd ask your vet about it's use before starting anything. You vet could put a post on VIN (Veterinary Information Network) and get some input. I always worry about supplements since they can interact with any drug your cat (or you) may need.

Also, higher cholesterol levels in cats is not problematic.
