good morning everybody!

3 p's present for the binks this morning...

and one very wrong P present for Little Annie Fannie...she peed on my shirt that was signed by Diana Krall, Elvis Costello, Shelby Lynne, Sheryl Crow, Kris Kristofferson, Willie Nelson, Paul Simon, and a multitude of other great musicians. The bean is not pleased...though i read her the riot act in a quiet pleasant voice so as not to set back her socialization.
Somehow her purry, snuggly response did not seem very remorseful :lol:

Annie wanted to sign the shirt, too! After all, she's vocal and special, isn't she?

Great looking start for Binks. He, of course, is a gentleman and would never consider doing such a thing.

It sounds like she's apologizing with the purring; you just have to look a little closer into the sweet face!

It's the truth based on what Celi has told us is going on with the introductions. She's low cat on the totem-pole and shy. She will continue this behavior until Celi accepts her in kitty language.

This means eye gazing, slow blinks of the eyes (kitty kisses). The cat no confidence, Celi is the top cat in the house and can make her feel welcome.

Poor Annie, just wanted to make you sit up and take notice (and boy did she ever succeed!). Hope the shirt can be safely restored to it's pristine beauty.

On a brighter note: Binks is looking GREAT this morning! Surf, Binksy, surf!

i do agree with Sienne, and especially you, beth...spot on assessment...Annie is a very clean little lady...and though I think a lot of it is misconception on her part, she feels terribly threatened by the other two. And she does have a LOVELY voice...IMHO, right up there with any of those singers :lol:

I do tend to wonder if she will overcome her past as completely as i wish...but have come to the conclusion that any improvement is worthwhile in her case.
She was only 8 months old when the human aggression started...which continued for a year followed by 6 years of abandonment, so she may never fully adjust or trust that kindness is a right and not a privilege...but maybe she will surprise me.

i figure it is enough that she never again experience wrongful treatment in her lifetime...and i can't help but feel absolutely joyous that she stretches out against my back all night long...she purrs in her sleep, and i think that's just plain cool!
she also has started going to sleep with my arm around her...which has been a big step..when we're alone she shows total relaxation...but Smudge always interrupts and tries to browbeat her. i made the mistake of trying to admonish Smudge in front of annie...and that caused a bad afternoon.

socializing one at a time might be easier...but challenges are probably my just desserts!

You might try the sneak attack squirt gun on Smudge. I don't think admonishing Smudge in front of Annie was a bad thing. Cat's get embarrassed too sometimes. Who caused the rest of the bad afternoon? Smudge?

yeah...she hates to be corrected in front of the others...but i think she needs to be...
i havent tried the water approach yet...it may do the trick.

here's the odd thing with annie...we are well-versed in eye communication...but the minute smudge is near...annie wont look at me, and wont let me catch her eye.
Ive been reading that as an unwillingness to let smudge see us engaging in eye talk...but maybe it has more to do with a mistrust of what i'm trying to tell her...as my attn is diverted somewhat? i've always had multiple cats...but never dealt with one that interfered with my interaction with the others. perhaps my expectation that smudge will interfere comes across to annie as apprehension or dissatisfaction?

interesting on annie and smudge. you'll get ther eventually. Years ago I had a kitty that we had adopted from a shelter. It was apparent from day on when we got her home that she had been abused, mistreated, etc. It took some time to get her to trust us, to know she was accepted, and not to fear. But we did. I think you will too.

and bummer on the shirt......

MudCat has taken a long time to do it with me. Her and Krueger ...all the time. Now Krueger is gone and Attie's not the snuggle kind of guy. So we've been working on it too. She now does it and will give me the ever precious silent meow. She's also starting to chatter with me. ;-)

To me it sounds like Annie isn't being inattentive to you...she's worried about Smudge. So her attention is on him...even if she is acting aloof. I find that if I get MudCat her favorite toy and start playing with her...then invite Attie it improves their interaction. MudCat's favorite toy is the CatDancer. Her and Krueger would play together with it, but Krueger would eventually try to dominate the game at which point the catdancer was put away. Mud now knows the dancer is her toy, her bonding time and if she wants to share she will...and if somebody else dominates that game...the game stops.

low numbers anymore. Great job!!!

Poor little Annie!!! But I agree with you Celi...as long as she has the rest of her life knowing only love and kindness then that is the most important thing.

Whoa.....Binks is sure lookin great these days.

I'm sorry about your shirt :( You are making such a difference in their lives. It is heartwarming.

I don't know about cat socialization. But with dogs if humans interfere in their pecking order it makes it a lot worse. Humans are the alpha but the dogs have to work it out between them who is the dominant one. And if you interfere it makes it more drawn out and more disharmony.

and after all my bi*ching and moaning, this afternoon, binks was curled up on my chest...Smudge couldnt stand being left out...so she crawled up on my lap, laid her head on his butt...and they laid like that for 30 minutes.

crazy little buggers...

thinking healing thoughts for rocket, tori, girlcat, blackie...and all other little kits who can use them...

ETA: and then...Smudge beat the tar out of Annie... :YMSIGH:

What a beautiful day for Binks! Just great numbers! If anyone can tame those adoptacats, its got to be you Celi. You are doing great with them and you are making progress. I don't know how those people with lots of cats get them to all get along. We still have civie Bitsy who lives in the office cuz she's scared of the other civies after 2 years of living together.

Binks holds the secret to the green numbers...and much as he loves his lantus family...i'm surprised he hasnt shared it yet...

no idea where it comes from...he rocks the globe...then we get off track...then he's rockin again.
i overanalyze it somewhat obsessively...but it doesnt affect him...he just keeps on truckin'.

and then their world fell apart. she's made it a point since we've lived together to continually try to assert herself...binks and i won't put up with it, but annie has yet to fight back.

and yes, Cheryl...i have to confess those darlin kittens i was tryin to pawn off on you are the Notorious Torties.

Hey Celi - have you googled reducing aggression in cats? Just found this on an aspca site:

* Separate your cats as described above but for a longer period of time, and reintroduce them at a much slower pace, like several days to a few weeks.

* During the sessions, you might find it easier to control your cats with harnesses and leashes, or by confining one or both of your cats in crates.
* During the sessions, keep both cats distracted with food or play. Start out with them far apart. Keep the sessions short. Make it easy for them to succeed.
* Separate your cats between reintroduction sessions to prevent a relapse.
* Only when your cats can peacefully eat and play within a couple feet of each other should they be left alone together unsupervised. Trust them only for short periods together at first and increase their times together gradually.
* Behavioral medication may be helpful in reducing a domineering cat’s aggression and a skittish cat’s fear, making the reintroduction go more smoothly and quickly.

Sounds like Smudge punished Annie for the shirt incident. I hope she don't hurt her, this is probably
why she won't make eye contact when Smudge is around. She is scared of Smudge. My Arnie would
never tolerate another kitty in his domain. He is king and he is not social. Thanks for visiting our
condo all the time Celi. Sorry I don't make many visits to anyones condos. I just don't have time
working 2 jobs I barely have time to update Arnie's condo sometimes. Have a GREAT night!! :smile:

Hey Nightbird here!! Binksy is looking real fine!! Green as a Granny Smith!--How about using the squirt gun on the aggressors??
I used it on these guys when they came in from outside, as they were a little unruly--But just a drop of water, & they were sweet & smooth--
No it's not mean! It's just you way of saying -unacceptable behavior!!--Hey think about it--I know you love all of them & would be hoping for
a good old 60's peace rally, "All we are saying, Is give peace a chance"---But the Torties have a different idea--
