WCR = :cry:

When I got home from work last night I noticed Chloe was walking funny...kind of limping. As the night went on, it seemed to get worse, although she didn't seem to be in any pain. The limping was about the same when I tested her at +5.5. I got up to test her at +9.5, as usual. The limping was about the same as last night, but while I was watching her, I think she had a little seizure -- her head was in a funny position and she was twitching. I took her to the emergency vet, which is just about 3 minutes down the road. The physical exam didn't reveal anything, except perhaps some arthritis. The emergency vet suspects Chloe did have a small seizure. We did a full blood panel and a vet tech called me tonight to say the results were in. My vet will call me tomorrow to discuss the results. But, the vet tech did tell me Chloe had elevated liver values:

ALP = 80 (reference range is 10-70)
ALT = 222 (reference range is 5-65, and when Chloe had bloodwork done in July, her ALT value was 67)
AST = 80 (reference range is 26-43)

I guess this could explain her high numbers after almost a month of greens and blues. I started to give all the catties, including Chloe, lysine about a month ago. That wouldn't have anything to do with the elevalted liver values, would it?

I'd appreciate all input. I want to be prepared to talk to the vet tomorrow.

Recap of BGs

I don't have any answers about the bloodwork, but it's scary to think that Chloe might have had a seizure. I'm glad you caught it right away and I'm sending you good vet vines for tomorrow. I hate waiting for test results......

(((Chris-Chloe))) Sending snowflakes and healing vines. Good luck with the vet visit tomorrow. Hopefully just a minor problem. Chin up. Keep us posted.

((((Chris and Chloe))))

Sending snowflakes and vines that it is minor and a good vet report is coming your way!

Thank you!

For the first time in a year, we're on the receiving end of healing vines and well wishes. I can't tell you how much that is appreciated, and means to us. I really don't know what I'd do without all of you. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart.

(((Chris)))

Off the top of my head....

When was Chloe's T4 level last checked? Hyperthyroidism would explain those elevated liver enzymes as well as the wacky BGs.

How old is she? Have you ever had a Free T4 run? The T4 may be suspect depending on her age. Supposed to be below 2-2.5 for senior kitties (above about age 10-12), and it should continue to decrease with age.

((Oh Chris))... My heart just dropped when I read this!
Just wanted you to know that I am sending oodles of healing vines and prayers to Chloe..
Lots of experience on this board to help you and Chloe! Hope it's something very fixable...

It is a separate test from the T4. She's on the younger end of the HT spectrum, but cats above the age of 7 or 8 do get it. I *think* Hillary's Maui was a young HT kitty.....9 at the time, maybe, if I am remembering correctly.

In any case, wouldn't hurt to rule it out. Jess and Jojo should be able to help with what other tests, etc. you may want to run. Sending many healing and comforting vines.

I see you've already gone ni ni for the night, but just wanted to let you know we are thinking of you and hoping that you get some good news from the vet. (((Chris))) (((Chloe)))

(((Chris & Chloe))) Sending feel better real soon vines to Chloe. I hope the test results help to pin point whatever is ailing her and nip it in the bud. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Just wanted to say I've got you in my prayers, and that Esse sends some lovies, too. Hoping that the visit goes well today, and that it's something easily fixable.

hugs...

Best-
Michele

Chris,

Off the top of my head I can remember that elevated ALT levels can be an indication of muscle damage. If Chloe did have a seizure that could be the reason? I would have the vet recheck her liver enzymes after she seems like she is doing better. And if she had a seizure when you were not home she could have injured her leg and thus the limping started.

I am not a vet.....just some ideas to think about. I am so sorry to hear this.

(((((Chris & Chloe))))) Sorry I didn't see your post until just now. I am keeping you guys in my thoughts and prayers and sending good vettie bean vines and bunches of snowflakes and blankets of snowflakes......

Good luck at the vets today. Sending good vibes to you and Chloe <<hugs and purrs>>

Cassandra is correct, Maui was 9 when she got hyper T.

It's a simple blood test and the vet may not have thought to do it, since it is a separate test (and cost). But it's so worth getting done, if for no other reason than peace of mind and to create a base line to go off of later on.

I hope this is something that can be figured out soon and Chloe is on the mend.

I have another kitty, Buster who started having seizures at age 3. It's very scary to witness and luckily Buster does recover fully afterward. In her case, I think it's hereditary ( her sib had them) and her mom may have had distemper while pregnant (she is a feral and there was inbreeding happening, Buster's father is also her grandfather).

If Chloe does have another seizure while you are there to witness, first off don't panic.

Grab a large towel, put it under her, put her someplace where she can't fall or hurt herself. Like on the floor, bed, couch, and hold her while it happens. I was told that talking in a loud voice or clapping may help (it hasn't with Buster) but worth trying.

Note how long it lasts and what happens. All important for the vet to help you figure out what's going on.

The reason for the towel is in case she loses body control and pees/poos while under, it will sop up the mess and give you a way to wrap her if necessary and carry her, if you need to go vet.

When Buster comes out of the seizure, she is usually starving, so make sure you have food available for afterward.

I hope Chloe doesn't have another, but if she does, at least you can be somewhat prepared. The main thing is not to panic and remain calm and in control (I know easier said than done).

Sending you tons of healing vines and soft snowflakes.

Hi Chris - sending many many vet vines your way. Hang in there. I will be thinking about you and Chole today, and if I can help in any way, please let me know. We are not that far away...

I hope all goes well today, that you come away with good news, and an answer. I have a friend who had a dog that was prone to seizures, should that be what this is. It is treatable, and can be controlled. So - good thoughts your way!

Take care!
