yesterday condo http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=60796

the past few weeks Mikey has been having "hair ball" coughs, hair has been coming up so I thought that was what it was. The past few days the coughs are more frequent with more liquid and no hair. This after noon his right eye had some goopy stuff in the corner. I wiped away not thinking much. About 2 hours later when I looked at him he could not keep his eye open, only half way and the goopy stuff doubled and had a hint of green. I am now assuming with his lack of appetite yesterday, he is probably getting a cold. I do have some stuff on hand but am not sure he, being FD can have it. When my civies have watery, gooping eyes I usually start them on terramycin. I also have clovomox 62.5 pills here. Any advise? I hate to rack up a vet bill if it's not necessary.

I'm not big on suggesting antibiotics without knowing whether it's the right drug for the right problem. I'd suggest a vet visit. If there's an eye infection going around your cats, you may need to get them all on the same med.

I would suggest a visit too, for this. If it's an eye issue and not a URI, you may need specific eye meds to clear it. Poor Mikey, my Mikey says feel better soon!

Thanks! Poor guy :( With the symptoms so far I am guessing URI. I know self prescribing is a "no-no" but when you work in rescue you kind of get used to it. When I left FL they sent me with a care package of lots of meds that we "normally" use because sometimes by the time we can get a shelter cat to the vet it's too late. I will see about getting an appointment but even with that, is there anything I should know about the meds that might be prescribed? I think I read somewhere that prednisone can be horrible for FD's, I think even take them out of remission? I wasn't sure about anything else having an effect. I love the vet I go to, but I also know the vet's don't always know it all. Is there a list somewhere regarding meds FD's should stay away from, or ones that are better for them to be on?

I think prednisone is steroid and all steroids are bad for FD kitties. Yes they can bring them out of remission and they can also give civies diabetes.

Hope Mikey feels better soon

I verified with Jenn at DCIN and scheduled a vet visit for 3:30 pm today. Will post when I know what the dx is. If he was my cat I would think it was just like "pink eye" but with him FD and only having him a few months, we don't want to take the chance.
