Good morning world! Yesterday's CHF questions..((

AMPS 250

What a nice yellow suit my Pook is wearing this morning! I fed zero carb breffis trying to not send him zinging upward.

Scruffy isn't doing well this morning - the fluid is getting worse and is now showing in his legs. He's still eating, drinking and doing all his 'normal' things. I feel so bad for him. He got his Lasix and Enalapril this morning but I don't know if it's going to work in time. He's such a wonderful doll of a cat - why people abandoned him in his early life is totally beyond me. He just loves to be with someone and would live in a lap if he could.

Shopping day - time to make my pennies squeak...noisy things...

From yesterday's condo by Marjorie and Gracie:
Along with the breathing sounds Sienne told you to watch for, also watch for labored breathing. I had a kitty with CHF and never heard breathing sounds but I could tell by her respiration rate when her chest was filling.

I'm not sure why you are testing for protein in urine and is it for the cats? If so and you are looking for whether there is proteinuria going on related to chronic kidney disease, you can't tell just by those sticks. You have to have a special test done called a protein:creatinine ratio. That lets you know whether the protein in urine is as a result of compromised kidneys. Our CKD kitty, Gus, always has +1 protein in his urine but his P:C ratio is totally normal.

Yes Marjorie, I was reading about CHF as well as the meds and looked like I needed to watch for that??? My brain is going in circles again.....I still haven't completely figured out this dire beasties thing... Now I have to learn CHF too?

Have a wonderful day!!!

I hope the meds kick in quickly for Scruffy. It's just so hard when our babies are sick.

Good luck scraping Lincolns together!

Prayers needed please. I'm now officially really worried about Scruffbaby. The fluid is moving down into his legs. He's still hungry, thirsty, both P's in lb, full of purrs, sat outside in the warm sun for a few hours but he's back in his room now. Now that I've seen both P's inside, I won't hesitate to lock him in. He doesn't need to be outside nor does Ziggy need to visit. QUESTION: How long should it take for the lasix to work? I don't know how much he usually pees so don't know if it's more often than usual.

Why does this have to come so close to losing Peanut? I'm now becoming afraid I'm going to lose him soon too. He deserves more time....10 isn't old.

Big hugs to all,

Snowflakes, prayers and healing white light for Scruffy.

Lasix can work quickly but it depends on how much residual fluid there is. Can you restrict Scruffy's fluid intake? You want to limit sodium AND water -- at least that's critical in humans. If you're worried, call your vet.

There's now a lot of fluid Sienne. Vet didn't TELL me to restrict fluids! So...take water up? I talked to the vet at about 4:30, he just said the Lasix hadn't had time to start working yet and STILL didn't say anything about restricting fluids. ARGGG!!! Where's his brain? What else do I need to do that he didn't tell me?

HUGS!

I am so sorry to hear about Scruffy and I am praying the lasix does the trick and Scruffy is feeling better soon. I'm pretty sure Lasix in humans causes people to have to urinate alot more than usual. Not sure if it works the same in cats.

((((Scruffy))))

I'm sorry. The fluid is building up quite fast. Is he on a high enough dose? I feel so helpless. I don't know a thing about CHF in cats. Nike my dog was 11.5lbs and was on 20mg of lasix three times a day when she was fighting CHF for the past month. She was on almost the maximum dose for a dog. I know nothing about cats. You can get injectible lasix but we never used this. You aren't giving subq fluids are you? Cats are so different than dogs I wish I could help.

Sending healing vines for Scruffy and keeping him in our prayers. Lyresa, I hope the lasix kicks in tonight so that you can breathe easier. You are doing all that you can do.
Positive thoughts coming your way.

Love and hugs,

Ella & Rusty
