@Critter Mom @tiffmaxee @Red & Rover (GA)

Good morning everyone,

This morning I cringed when I saw Blaze's BG...it was in hypo zone.

He is eating but he never finishes what I put in his bowl...basically not eating enough I think. He only eats morning and evening, he doesn't even graze on the dry food/left over wet occasionally like Ash does.

After he ate this morning, I gave him 2 treats to bring the glucose up a bit more considering he was in hypo zone.

I am going to check his BG more often today.

Gonna email the vet too.

No I did not, because he is on OTJ...and I thought that when they are off the insulin, you only test them before meals...I am going to test him more today for sure and possibly more overnight too.

If he's not getting any insulin, then those numbers are his normal blood glucose...

Lots of kitties normal numbers run quite low - I've seen them where they've been OTJ for months - and the spot test will show a 40...alarming? Yes. Normal? Yes, completely.

You have nothing to worry about ... he's making his own insulin now...

Oh ok, thank you...I saw that number and gulped :nailbiting:

He slept with me all night and we cuddled and he seemed totally fine, purry, happy, sweet...I didn't notice anything unusual. When he was on insulin, he would have weird behaviour at times. But since he seemed completely fine, I didn't think of checking the glucose.

You are right, as long as he's not on insulin (that you're giving) you really don't have anything to worry about as far as low numbers! The only worry now is a high number - you're golden!

Have a nice day!!

Hi Paola,

I'm assuming this is your 'old' vet? It's great that they are so responsive. :)

As others have assured you above, today's AMBG is OK for a cat not on insulin. Some kitties may naturally run a little below the lower bound of the normal reference range on occasion. That Blaze is generally running in the lower part of the reference range is really encouraging. It's when a cat is running toward the upper end of the normal reference range during their OTJ trial that is of real concern.

Wishing you all a grand day.

Yes tonight it was less :nailbiting: lol
But now I understand that it is normal to be that low.
Going to go to sleep, long day ahead tomorrow and I have a feeling that someone whose name starts with "B" will wake me up for cuddles at 5 am...or 4 :D
Will start a thread tomorrow!!
Have a great night everyone :bighug::bighug::bighug:
