Well. Mowgli climbed in his rocket last night... straight to the moon!

I’ve started adding a glucosamine supplement and fish oil to Mowgli and Nyx’s food today, I really think that @Sue and Luci could have been right when she guessed Nyx could have arthritis. She has a lot of common symptoms. I’m not able to get an appointment for Nyx until October 18th so I reached out to @Wendy&Neko , as I knew she has experience with feline arthritis. Until I can get into the vet she recommended glucosamine, fish oil, and heat reflective beds. I picked up the supplements at the vet yesterday and I have some heat reflecting beds coming tomorrow for poor Nyxie.

I know this is Mowgli’s condo but: does anyone have any other tips for a kitty that *might* have arthritis? Like how to make her more comfortable until she can get formally diagnosed?

Poor Nyx. Sounds like you are doing all the right things for her. I hope they all help. :bighug:

I can't believe your vet can't see her until 10/18! What it you had a sick cat? Would they get you in? ugh, I hope they will get a cancellation and call you. Be a squeaky wheel and call every few days and see if they have an opening available.

All the vets in my town are booked solid all the time! It’s horrible!!

If I really had to get her in I can go In for an emergency appointment but it will cost an arm and a leg!! She’s still jumping and playing, but she often walks with a limp and her back has hunched up... I think it should be ok for another couple weeks. I hope the glucosamine helps her joints, I’m glad I can feed it without harm to Mowgli too because they eat out of each other’s bowls.

I hope Nyx starts to feel better real soon.

Vets over here are always busy too, it wasn't always like that, I used to be able to see the vet the same day that I called.
They are all so busy and so many doctors in one office, creates lots of confusion.

Hope Mowgli decides to come down the ladder for you.....Hey Mowgli, the beach is real nice this time of year, hear the waves and smell the fish?

Hope your day goes well Amanda!!:bighug:

Poor Nyx. I hope the supplements help. Furball has never been diagnosed with arthritis, but she does have a limp. I give this to her once a day and it helps.

I hope Mowgli surfs safely today.
Thanks Carla!

I will definitely look into that! I picked up "Aventi Joint Care" and "Aventi Omega 3 Complete"

I hope, like Furball, that Nyx doesn't have arthritis! fingers crossed it is just a limp and this joint formula will help

I am sorry to hear that Nyx May have arthritis. One of mine has some & he gets fish oil. In addition, and what has helped the most, was getting some pet ramps & stairs so he doesn’t have to jump down & land on his legs as hard. Just doing that made a huge difference—no limping & he is happy because he has accessibility to everywhere he loves to go.

The other helpful treatment is PRP-platelet rich plasma.

Thanks Amy! I'm hoping it isn't arthritis... you know the internet though... I'm pretty convinced it is ;)

I'll have to start looking into some ramps that will work with our house, Nyx still loves climbing her cat trees and bounding up the stairs so if it is arthritis, hopefully it is early enough in that we can get it managed with little long term negative effects

Hi, I'm pasting some info below that I found online (don't remember the websites -- sorry). When I added fish oil to Phoebe Squeak's food, her BG started to rise, so I did some research & found this info. Just something to consider. I have no idea if it's accurate, but Phoebe Squeak's doctor decided I should not give her the fish oil just to be safe.

Elevated Blood Sugar

The omega-3 fatty acids present in fish oil may raise your blood sugar level. An increase in blood sugar levels can be particularly harmful for people who already have diabetes. If your diabetes is controlled by medication, you may begin to experience diabetes symptoms again while taking fish oil supplements. Such symptoms include increased urination and thirst, sudden weight loss, fatigue and blurred vision. Seek prompt care from your doctor if you develop any of these symptoms, especially if you have already been diagnosed with diabetes. Uncontrolled blood sugar levels may cause severe and permanent kidney and nerve damage.

Diabetes Drug Interaction

Always discuss all medications you are currently taking with your primary medical provider before beginning treatment with dietary or herbal supplements, including fish oil. The blood sugar raising effects of fish oil may reduce the efficacy of any diabetes medications you are currently taking, including glipizide, metformin, glyburide or insulin, the University of Maryland Medical Center warns. Consequently, your doctor may need to increase the amount of diabetes medication you take each day to counteract the blood sugar effects of fish oil.

Another thing to think about is CBD for arthritis. I'm giving Holistapet 5mg a day to Tina. Still hoping I can stop the Metacam, but it has helped the most. I know its not a drug we want long term.

My vet says 90 percent of cats over 11 or 12 have arthritis, and many have it as early as age 6.

I hope it's not officially arthritis...but our poor kitties have joints too...and I've got it as well..Luci and I walk down the stairs a lot alike sometimes...I hope some of the natural remedies will help Nyx.

Hope Mowgli gets back down to business soon :)

Guys. My work IT Group blocked the FDMB site today
:facepalm::facepalm::facepalm::arghh::arghh:

I will probably be much less active around here during the week as using my phone is much more conspicuous than using my computer :p I’m actually going to inform my IT department and manager that this site is important for me to have access to so that I can properly manage Mowgli’s diabetes. Let’s see if they will support me or not.

Thanks to everyone today for the support with Nyx I hope she’s just getting older and it isn’t arthritis.

@J.J. and Phoebe Squeak I has asked my vet about the fish oil and they said it would be ok for Mowgli... but I guess not all vets have good reputations for these things o_O

I’ll watch Mowgli’s numbers and see how they’re going. If they go up I will try and separate their food. But it is hard because Nyx will just eat Mowgli’s lunch if it’s out... thanks for the info:)

@Tina Marie and Jan I definitely will consider CBD for Nyx if she’s diagnosed! I will keep that brand in mind, thanks!

I have not used these on a kitty, but I’m having great success with glucosamine and chondroitin (sp?) and CBD oil for my drooler. I use Cosaquin on my vet’s recommendation and CBD from Charlotte Web on Joy’s (@JoyBee&Ravan) recommendation. These two have made a huge difference in her mobility. My DH has also started taking CBD for arthritis and nerve pain in his very bad back and says it really helps.

Did they say why they blocked it? I hope they let you access it.
I think they just have an internet monitoring script for employees or something. I will reach out to IT and see what they say. They might just need to talk to my leader and see if he’s ok with it... otherwise: phone o_O

Thanks Jill! The Joint Care has glucosamine hydrochloride and chondroitin sulphate and a few other things. I think I’ve seen enough members attest to CBD that if Nyx has arthritis I would look into it straight away
