Good morning! Milo's +4 wasn't much different from his PMPS so I prioritized my health and slept through the night for the first time in 4 nights. That felt wonderful! He seems to be holding his own this morning but not terribly hungry, which is never a surprise with him. I'll try more breakfast shortly.

Have a happy day, everyone. Stay safe.

Now he's refusing to eat and he vomited a bit of frothy white stuff. He doesn't usually refuse the LC and now he won't even touch the MC. I jumped the gun and shot because he always eats within the first hour. I may have to run home at 11:00. It gives me about a 5 min turn-around in order to get back to work on time. It's always something with this guy...

Syringed about 1 1/2T LC/water mix into him. Set up autofeeder and iPad with camera to record when/if he jumps up to eat. I will have to come home briefly this morning to check. What a start...

I did go home on both of my breaks. 5.9 @ +5 and I syringed some HC into him. 5.8 @ +7.75 but he still is not eating anything. I held off giving him more food with the syringe because he wasn't dropping too low and I would be home in an hour and a half. If he's still funky tonight, it'll be onto antibiotics. This happens every so often and antibiotics turn things around quickly. It could be teeth (he has an appointment shortly) or anything else as he is immune-compromised apparently. It's hard to say what kicks off an episode (I've spend thousands on this over the years) but he gets glassy-eyed, sometimes vomits, lethargic, won't eat, sometimes some upper respiratory issues. I always have emergency Anti-Clav antibiotics on hand because getting those into him early on is important. He goes from seemingly fine (like last night, eating and snuggling) to not ok by the morning... I'll see how he is tonight but BG is holding steady. There was pee on the floor outside the litter box; I have ketone strips but didn't think they'd show anything if the pee wasn't fresh. Is that correct? Could ketones be an issue if his BG isn't high? I thought it was usually high BG and not eating that can cause this.

He's not as bad as some other times but just not himself and I shouldn't have given him his shot when he didn't eat first I know. However, he often takes an hour to wake up and always eats by +1. Others here told me eating before the shot isn't as critical on Lantus, as long as they do eat not too long after. This time I got caught.

So, we're at +12 and not eating other than the two small syringes of LC then HC earlier today. I was hoping he might be interested by dinner. I have not shot. Do I skip as long as he's not eating??

Lantus usually takes about two hours until onset. What is your PMPS. Do you think he would eat some tuna? Have you tried forteflora? Parmesean cheese sprinkled over his food?

You've still got about two hours to coax him into eating something...you don't have to skip.

I don’t have forteflora. I have tried all the different foods he likes and nothing is getting eaten at all. I should have shot 30 mins ago. I have to do it if I’m going to. I can syringe feed him a little tonight if it’s better he gets his shot.[/QUOTE]

I would do at least a half dose. Even cats undergoing anaesthesia who cannot eat, still get half dose. Insulin is used for more than just combating the carbs in food. Oops, too late, saw you shot. :) We've seen ketones in lower numbers too.

I hope the antibiotics helps and soon.

Thanks. I couldn’t wait anymore. I did skinny the dose because I was worried. Thanks for getting back to me.
For the future, if he misses the litter box, can I do a ketone test or does it have to be fresh? I’m also not 100% it was him and not his brother. But it would make sense that the accident would be the cat who’s obviously unwell...

Finally ate a little.... only about 1/2 tsp MC after turning up his nose at LC. I'll take it for now... I was just getting the syringe ready; I think he decided he'd better eat on his own or else.
