WCR: All is good with Blackie.
I was up at 3:00 a.m., and couldn't get back to sleep. My first thought was of Shadow, of course. So, I got out of bed, set up the coffee maker (made sure that the coffee would be a bit strong since I've only had 5 hours of sleep), and went to see how she was. I noticed that the LB had been used (pee still) some time during the night, and that was good. I was concerned (had that gut-wrenching fear actually) that she wouldn't eat anything again this morning, as the last thing she had was Fancy Feast Appetizers (chicken) at about 6 p.m. (they're only supposed to be used as a supplement according to the package, but if she eats them, then fine). I tried to get her to eat at around 8, when the others ate, but she wasn't interested.
This morning, I spent about an hour trying to get her to eat what she ate before, but wasn't successful. As a last resort, I tried an unopened trial package of tuna flavored Temptations, and she was definitely interested. On a whim, I got her food dish, put some fresh kibble in it, and presented it to her. Again, I was surprised, and pleased. She didn't eat a whole lot, but it was enough to help keep her tummy full. 6:00 a.m. rolled around, and it was time to take care of Blackie, and feed the others. I set aside some Friskies salmon pate for her, and at around 6:30 went back to the office, and offered it to her. Nothing. I had set her kibble dish next to her water bowl earlier. I reached down, picked it up, and presented it to her again. Nothing, however, I tried a few more Temptations treats, and it worked.
I made sure that she didn't eat a lot because she hadn't had kibble in quite a while, and so far, I haven't seen any poo action from her. I'm highly expecting some not-so-nice action, though. She also drank some water when I picked up her dish and brought it to her. Not knowing how much water she drinks over night, as long as she drinks when I'm there, I'll be happy.
She was trained with being fed at certain times during the morning, and evening, and since she was an outdoor kitty; I never left food out for her as it'll attract neighborhood cats. Naturally, she always had water left out for her, though, and now being in the office is no exception. Now, I can leave the kibble out, and she can eat when she gets hungry. Who knew that she'd go back to eating some kibble again.
In the meantime, I'm trying to gently clean her neck with warm soapy water as it's kind of crusty, and I know it's itchy for her. I use a small dab of Dawn antibacterial dish soap, and warm water, a clean facecloth soaked in the soapy water, and gently rub/dab at the crusts on her neck. I gently dab a bit on the wound to clean it, but I mainly use diluted peroxide/water (1 tsp. of each) to hopefully kill anything that may harm her. The wound is pretty much healed, but still oozes a tiny bit. I'm not sure if I should be concerned, or not about this. In the meantime, I'll treat it a couple of times a day with the diluted peroxide soaked cotton ball (also gently dabbing), and at least give her neck a bit of a bath. Think I'll try the warm water only next time I try and clean her neck later.
Today, I'm going to wait until 4:00 for the vet to call me with the results of the biopsy. If I don't hear from him, I'm going to call. I didn't bother to call today as I had a feeling that the results weren't in yet. Normally, I'm a patient person... Blackie's diabetes has taught me that, and so has my cross stitching. Right now, I'm not a very patient person, especially where our beloved Shadow is concerned. I want her better, and healthy, and I want that for her right now.
Wishing for all other kitties (and hoomans, too) that are ailing to make a full and speedy recovery very soon.
