Good afternoon!

TGIF.. Its been a week!

I "think" one of my rescues had a partial or focal seizure this morning. I may have caught just the tail end of it. She is one of the cats though that I cannot get in a carrier. I have spoken to the Vet about her previously because I did witness her have a short one in January of 22 and then one last year July of 2022.

My gf is a vet in TN, and she told me that if I know extensive testing or meds are going to be required, the stress may be worse for her than if she is having the odd one here and there. I just don't know what to do, because my first reaction is to always go to the Vet, but I'm scared she'll have a seizure if I try to grab her ( one of these seizures happened when I tried to hold her and put flea meds on her, so it could be fear triggered).

Will have to think on this one. Thanks for listening!

Sorry to hear about the poor kitty with a seizure.
You think your vet can prescribe gabapentin for her? I know it's used for focal seizures for cats.
I tend to agree with your Vet GF about the stress she likely experiences. If you are pretty sure about the seizure, maybe just go ahead and medicate her?

That's a tough one and there may not be an easy solution.
Hope you will find a way that is least stressful for all of you :bighug::bighug::bighug:

I did think about that, as my Vet understands how semi feral cats that aren't amicable to be handled, are by nature.

Problem with Marmalade is she would be difficult to medicate as well, even though Gabapentin is generally a small tablet, she'd need to take it willingly.

It just makes me feel terrible, because I am not the type of Fur Mom who would neglect any of my animals, I just don't know how to handle this situation. :bighug:

I see the dilemma Deb!
Of course, you are the most caring, wonderful Fur Mom! But because you care so much, it must be so distressing.
I wonder if there are cream or transdermal meds for cat seizures?
I can't remember exactly what it was, but someone I knew was using some sort of gel or cream that was applied to the kitty's ear.
Maybe a quick consultation with your vet? I know you have a nice relationship with your vet. Maybe she can offer a good solution.

Hi Deb so sorry about Marmalade , Tyler's brother used to have seizures, but he was having them a couple times a week., sometimes 2 in one day
He had to be put on liquid phenobarbital , still was having them and my vet added
Keppra. They really helped ,he might have only gotten 1 per month
then all of a sudden they stopped with the meds.
I had to take him for blood work often to see if the meds had to be lowered and they did . He was on a low dose for both of them.
Never knew what caused them.
He passed away from kidney disease 4 years ago. He was my heart kitty.
I hope your vet comes up with something for Marmalade :bighug::bighug::bighug:
Nice AMPS for Sly
