I hope I didn't give a fur shot. I thought I smelled insulin when I got that +2 test.

What is the best treatment for puncture wounds from a cat's claw? Baby was acting like she was going to jump MC and I didn't think and just put my foot in front of Baby to shoo her away. She grabbed my foot with her claws and now I have 4 pretty deep holes in my foot. I know that was really stupid of me, but I just didn't think. There was no cat fight thankfully.

I cleaned my foot with soap and water and am planning to put neosporin on when I got to bed in a little bit. Is there anything else I can do? I'm hoping to avoid going to the doctor and avoid any infection. I am up to date on my tetnus shot.

ETA: Thanks for any suggestions. Not thinking clearly because our weather has changed again and I'm not feeling that great.

with 11 cats and LOTS of experience with cat claws, i do exactly what you did. if it doesn't start getting better by tomorrow and looks like it's starting to get red , swollen or warm, then go to doc. if not it will probably go away pretty quickly. you have done the right things already imho but get to a doc if any of the above occurs. hope u heal fast. take care

I always wash with soap and water and then pour some hydrogen peroxide on it.

So sorry you're not feeling well. Lots of vines are headed your way!
 
Sending quick healing vines to your four punctures.

I've had a lot of them, and Knock On Wood, have never been to the doctor because of them. I hope yours heal just fine.
 
That all sounds good (soap and water, neosporin, go to doc if any suspicious swelling/redness) but I would NOT use hydrogen peroxide as that will cause the wound to seal up and you don't want that. Many vines for you, Carla.

Thanks everyone. Liz, I remembered reading that about hydrogen peroxide so I didn't use any. I just googled epsom salt and found out you can soak a wound for 10 minutes in epsom salt and water. Years ago one of my cat's had a wound on her foot and the vet had me soak it in epsom salt and water. I'm going to do that before bed.
 
Epsom salt sounds like a good plan. I always wash and apply neosporin pretty promptly when one of my kitties inadvertently "gets" me. I hope you heal up quickly!
 
While cat scratches/punctures aren't any fun, they're not usually as dangerous as cat bites are.

Usually cleaning it well and a little Neosporin is enough, but like everyone else suggested, if it gets warm, red or swollen, it's off to the doctor with you!

Next time, grab a broom....LOL

These weather changes are tough on us old birds, especially if we've ever had broken bones, surgery or just have a touch of arthritis.

As much as I love the spring and fall, the consistent temperatures in winter and summer are a lot easier to take!

Oh no on the inadvertent stab wound! Preventative vines to make sure the punctures heal without issue.

Glad to see Ms. Furball bounce-clearing. They always seem to save their "exciting" cycles for when we're not there to see what happened, don't they?
