So, Dexter unfortunately came out of remission. He most likely did this when we went on vacation. He was bullying the other cats out of their autofeeder food (All 3 were on Dr. Elsey's Chicken. (We caught it early this time it seems because he was just drinking more water than usual).

We switched him to wet food only per the vet, Fancy Feast Chicken Pate. 3% carb IIRC. Getting back into the hang of testing/updating spreadsheets. How are we doing so far?

I'm also not sure if I should follow SLGS or Tight Regulation? I'm trying to get him under control quickly for the best possible chances of remission long-term again.

Hi, sorry to hear that Dexter has fallen out of remission. When did he get back on insulin? Aug 28th with a dose of 2U?

If you are feeding only low carb canned or raw (no dry) and can test enough, you want to follow TR. It gives you the best chance of getting tightly regulated again. Some lucky cats have gone into remission multiple times.

@Lori Callagy's cat also fell out of remission when she was on vacation but is making his way down in dosing after a dental. Dental issues are one of the main reasons why cats fall out of remission. Did you get his teeth checked? Any chance he got into high carb food when you were on vacation?

You don't want to change doses based on preshots. That confuses the depot and you don't know which dose is working for him. With SLGS you can shoot any number over 90 and with TR any number over 50. You've done this before, remember? ;):D

I definitely remember, lol. I've been reading the sticky again. I'm not sure which method to follow. He's strictly wet food only, and we still have Karo on hand for low shots. When I was doing this before, I had the ability to monitor overnight since I was unemployed due to the pandemic. He just recently visited the vet, he's reacting very well to insulin so far it seems. I don't think there's any dental issues but we have a follow up soon. I'll have them take a look. 50 is the lowest to go on TR? Should I be comfortable under 100? I did SLGS before.

Sorry to hear Dexter fell out of remission. Like Bhooma mentioned, our Tango did too. Got back from vacation, checked his BG, and now he's back on insulin. He is doing well and we're hoping for remission again soon. We have only done TR. We are able to test and monitor as needed, which makes it less stressful. Paws crossed Dexter goes back into remission and it's a short trip.

BTW... Dexter's a handsome kitty:cat:

Thank you for that! Your kitty is cute too!

We both work from home, and so far can test as needed. I'm going to shoot for comfortable mix of 80-100 until I get really comfortable with the insulin again.

Thank you again, I hope you can convince your kitties pancreas to start working again soon!
