08/27 Ivana BG=90 Photo (as usual!)

Last week's post

Today's BG test is a little higher than usual, but guess what - I'M NOT WORRIED! No, truly, I'm not. It's still in normal range, still green, so I'm just going to forget about that extra 10-15 points that she has today because I'm sure it will be fine next week

Ivana was a very lucky kitty this week and got a present in the post from @Vyktors Mum! Serryn sent some lovely organic chamomile flowers, to help with Ivana's sundowner syndrome (nighttime dementia) and so far so good. She gets 1/2t of the brewed chamomile tea mixed into her dinner, and then I drink the rest of the cup - yummy! Here she is inspecting her parcel, which was even addressed specifically to her (I had to help her open it though, damn lack of opposable thumbs).

Oh, and I forgot to include an update on Brandy the chicken, who was very ill with peritonitis - after 2 weeks of medications and sleeping inside with us, she rejoined the flock today!

Yes I'm drinking her leftovers, never thought I would ever say the sentence "I'm just going to make a cup of tea for the cat" haha. Definitely nicer than teabags. I ordered a few organic medicinal teas the other day from Highland Herbs in Tasmania, one of which is valerian root. Apparently it's like catnip for cats, but Princess Ivana mustn't do drugs or something because she couldn't care less about it. At least it will help hubby and I sleep better though

How the heck do you give medication to a chicken?

She was on three different meds - two were liquids, and one was a giant dog-sized tablet that we had to crush and dissolve in a little bit of water. Then we just syringed everything down her beak/throat. She hated it, fought us every time - which I guess is a good thing, if she's got the energy to fight then she's not doing too bad! Oh and burrito position is very important, lest you get slapped in the face by a wing.
