Re: 08/14 Boomer 117 3 hours after eating

3 hours after breakfast he is 117 so basically the same as earlier.
At least it's not still going up. Next test will be in about 8 hours since I'm a bit late posting his +3 result
And he's eating his "old" i.e. original ff.

But tell me something.....what effect does play have on BG levels if any?

Re: 08/14 Boomer 117 3 hours after eating

exercise is great for any diabetic. Exercise causes the cells to be more receptive to glucose, so it allows the glucose to move out of the bloodstream into the cells. That lowers the BGs that you are measuring, plus it gets the nutrition (glucose) into the cells where it can be used.

That's why lower BGs lower appetite - their body is getting the energy (glucose) from what they eat.

So getting her playing is great.

Well he's at 133 3 hours after eating.
But....due to his upcoming dental surgery on monday and how stressed out he got earlier this week when we took him to the dr's, the dr wants us to give him alprazolam (.5) 2 hours before we take him in to the dr's. And he asked us to try it tonight to make sure it didn't sedate him too much. Well...if anything it seemed to make him a bit hyper. So potentially this is the reason for the increase?

You gave it to him with his dinner? I wonder if there is sugar in the med. If it is liquid unless you asked to make sure, there very well could be sugar in it.

Alprazolam is Xanax. I once gave it to my civie for one of his cystitis episodes (happened on a Sunday so had to see a different vet). I stopped after the one dose because it made him loopy and hyper. For some cats, Xanax can have the opposite effect of what is desired. You might want to mention Boomer's reaction to it to the vet, in case he changes his mind about giving it before the operation.
