Last Night:
190 PMPS
179 +3
67 +7
77 +7.5

I guess I did a pretty poor job of testing last night. J.D. did eat about 1/2 can FF (2 normal meals) at +7.
After the +7.5 test, I just never heard another alarm again. And again, I did not hear the alarm to get up this morning.
J.D. woke me up for AMPS.

Two kitties and I are off the vets in two minutes.

When I told my vet the last time we were there ...what was it last week or 9 days ago... that my cat's needed their rabies shots, they made a separate appointment for each cat. I'm like that's $50.00 for each "office visit" plus the special one year Purevax vaccine for each cat. I told them I spend a lot of money at this vet, are you really going to charge me a hundred dollars for "office visits" plus the vaccines? The receptionist said the office visits would be waived with the vaccines. We'll see.

A couple people posted yesterday regarding the hairball I found. It was not found by my foot, luckily.

Off to gather cats up. I know they're going to think they're going to the vet again next Thursday morning when they get put back into the same two carriers and we head off to Pittsburgh :-D

Question:
We're back from the vet. The vet brought out 4 vials, and wanted to give them distemper shots too, as well as the rabies.
They got the rabies. They had distemper shots last year and it made them sick for 24 hours. Do I really need to give them distemper shots? I made an appointment for Monday morning to give the distemper shots, but they said I could cancel, if I change my mind. I'll post this over in the Main Health forum, too.

I'd give J.D. some R because of this 369, but it could be vet stress, although he doesn't normally have higher BGs because of a vet appointment, and the R nadir would coincide with his Levemir nadir, so I can't. He'll just have to ride it out.

Hi Dyana,
Hope you have a great day. You obviously needed your sleep! J.D. is your alarm. Tucker woke me up this AM at 5, his AMBG time too, and he doesn't get any treats to do it! They learn quick.....
I lived in Pittsburg for 20+ yrs before moving down here. Love that city! Hope you have a great time there!

Sorry about those vet charges, Dyana. Does seem crazy to charge double, as it were - so did they waive the office visit fee? Also, if I may impose, could you maybe stop in with Phedre/Salem? They're considering using R but it's all pretty overwhelming for them (Salem is post-DKA so the ketones are looming), and I'm sure you'll have the perfect, gentle, non-overwhelming way to explain some things about R to Phedre. PM would work too. Just if you can manage, k?

Thanks! Have a great Caturday!

Oh, I HATE it when the doctor, vet, etc. want to schedule separate days! Two charges would be ridiculous, hope you tell us they waived it. When I was little, there used to be a local doctor who was a little eccentric (to say the least). He worked out of an office, like a business office. I remember he had piles and piles of books everywhere...and a television. I remember watching part of The Godfather during one visit. No exam table, didn't do physicals, etc, no nurse, just him. He saw urgent care or people too poor to go elsewhere. He always charged $2/visit. Once, my dad and I were seen together...$2. He'd pull out a ROLL of money to give you change. Owned pretty much half of that little town...didn't need the money, just did it to help people. We called him m-a-n-y a night and he'd meet us there. No appointments, just wait your turn. I'm sure he died years ago, but they just don't make 'em like him anymore. Sorry for the digression....

Sorry for J.D.'s higher numbers today. Hope he comes down soon!

Have fun on your trip and have a great day -

Libby (& Hershey, too!)

Re: 08/04 J.D. AMPS 334, +3.5 369, +10 273

I remember J.D. being fairly active and walking around quite a bit and following me to the kitchen everytime I went.
And then well, I slept most of the day

~O) ~O) now.

Last year, they waived the office calls because I got both the rabies and FVRCP vaccines and blood work and whatever else for my cats. This year, they just charged me for the office calls and the vaccines were waived? I don't know. I guess they charge whatever is more, because the rabies shots were $32.50 each on last years bill.

I'm one third of the way through reading Dr. Lisa Pierson's article on Vaccines, and it looks like the Distemper shot is not needed. I did insist on the Merial's PureVax rabies vaccine, but she did give them way high up on the top of the hip (a little too high, for my liking). It's just hard to go against what your vet says (although she wasn't our regular vet).

Doug and Libby. I thought you were talking about a vet. We have a farm vet around here that sees small animals a couple evenings a week, and it's a big waiting room - first come first served, no appointments - and he's super inexpensive, and a great vet. I've talked to a few people in the waiting room, that come from other states, just to see him. Anyway, when you come out from your appointment the male receptionist will say "what did you get?" and if you say 2 shots, he'll say 2 shots $20.00. But, I'm sure they don't carry the PureVax that I wanted. Ginger got spayed there many years ago. And he's the one that first diagnosed J.D. with diabetes. Now, I mainly just go to him when I need to see a vet on a Tuesday or Thursday night (from 4:30pm to 7:30pm) the two nights he's open, rather than going to the ER, as our regular vet closes at 5:00pm.

Jane, I'll look in on Salem's condo, as soon as I go walk my cats for a bit. I was thinking of posting previously.
