How much Restoralax are you giving? Is he eating today? Or at least drinking? More fluids will help things move.https://www.felineconstipation.org/

We are all on poo watch today.

Yes, Poo Patrol, reporting for duty. I gave him a tsp RestoraLax last night (and a little during the day) and another one this morning. He goes to the cat box and looks disappointed. I have an appointment tomorrow with the primary vet for a checkup regarding his early July hospital stay where he was diagnosed with CKD so I'll be able to bring the poo situation to their attention.

I think he's tired of me following him to the catbox and hovering over it expectantly.

But nothing yet....

Poor boy. I hate constipation. Does he sit in there a long time and strain? It's timely that you have a vet appointment tomorrow.

He’s not straining, Rather he looks like he expects to go but then nothing happens. He is interested in food still so I’m hoping something happens before the vet tomorrow so that he’s more comfortable…

Are you syringing him extra fluids? 1 tsp is a REALLY large dose for cats. Typically more like 1/4 tsp every 12 hours. He'll need quite a bit of water with that. Good to hear he's interested in food.
Yes, syringing extra fluids. 1 tsp is the dose recommended by the primary vet before when Blue had a bout of constipation. Right now am syringing 20-25ml every 30 mins. But still nothing...

SubQ fluids can help too with constipation but of course only if the heart is ok and I guess you don’t yet know that for certain.

Tubby had significant issues with constipation and later obstipation. I eventually realized that there seemed to be a notable correlation between that and high BG for him.

As for yesterday’s question about phosphorous binders… unless his levels are really high, I might try low phosphorous food first.

He's usually not constipated and also usually drinks water without urging. I've been syringing because of the RestoraLax and I've noticed that doing so is jump-starting a return to the water bowl.

I am, however, still concerned re: non-pooping and am glad we are going to vet tomorrow for checkup (including another blood panel).

As for food, I'm moving him away from the vet's "special" Hills "kidney care k/d) food which is high, high, high in carbs and have been mixing a low phos Weurva with the start of raw food, which I can see he loves even though I'm only giving him a test of it, gradually.

All I really want is for him to go the kitty box and do what needs be done tonight.

Sending the strongest poop vines for poor Blue!!! Is he peeping normally though? And while we are at it, in my experience, raw food presents a very different time frame for pooping. Prayers and vines for poop!!! :bighug::bighug::bighug:

So, Blue still has not done what he needs to do. I decide, just to keep on the safe side, to phone the hospital where he was overnight. i don't know who I was talking to but a) she's a person on the desk and not a vet or vet tech; b) she wouldn't let me get a word in edgewise; c) after I said he was discharged on the 30th and hasn't had a bowel movement she launches into i) this is normal for cats who have had anesthesia. I tell her he was not anesthetized; ii) Oh, he's diabetic?" I explain what happened; iii) the IM vet prescribed 4u, did you get that information. Yes, yes, I did; iv) you can call your regular vet in the morning and they will give him a pill or some syrup; v) is he eating. Yes. "Well, whatever goes in will come out". vi) Blue is "supposed to have a curve in 3 days." Where do I start? I just say, "Yes, that's right" and she says "well, this isn't an emergency" and I think "I am not going to get through to this person, so i'll call back and hopefully talk to someone else if I need to."

I decided to phone because Blue went into the kittybox and I can now see he is straining to go. Any thoughts here?

I'm hardly giving him much raw. Just introducing it in very, very small portions....He hasn't pooped now since the 30th...

Don't forget to update Blue's spreadsheet too. I want to see that change of colour on there!

Feline constipation is not my wheelhouse, that's why I linked the site in post #3.

That PMPS was a clerical error. Le sigh. It's actually 533. The spreadsheet looks dreadful.
