Good morning :cat:

Cooper had soft, sticky stool this morning. I can't seem to catch a break with this guy and his digestion. I tried omitting the Miralax with his breakfast, and just gave pumpkin only to see if that helps. Hopefully he won't become constipated again. I am wondering if he has some kind of allergy to the Fancy Feast, but I am holding out hope that that is not the case....

Now that I am thinking about it, I wonder if it could be a reaction to the antibiotic he was given for his UTI. Probably wishful thinking lol.

Hi Gabrielle,

When I had my guys a streak of soft/watery outputs, I gave them a small amount of psyllium husk powder mixed in their can food. It helped them without going to the other side. FYI. Hope Cooper feels better in his tummy soon :bighug:

You’re not wrong though. It could be the antibiotic. Diarrhoea/ stomach upsets are a side effect of antibiotics since antibiotics upset the balance of good and bad bacteria in the gastrointestinal tract.
Shen had loose watery stools when he was on a 5 day course (tablets) of Amoxicillin and Clavulanate for his UTI. I used to give him a probiotic but his stools got better a couple of days after the course was finished.

I haven't heard of that! I will definitely look for that, I am willing to try anything for the poor guy. Thank you :)

I am not 100% sure which antibiotic it was since it was a shot and my mom was the one who took him to the vet for me since I had to work (I probably should know that LOL), but I am sure it could be that! I am wondering about putting him on a probiotic just in general to help with overall gut health, so I am trying to find some good ones. I've heard mixed reviews about Fortiflora which seems to be the one mentioned most often!

Don’t worry, most antibiotics cause stomach upsets. I had to do a course myself recently and guess what happened :D

Shen’s had loose stools ever since I transitioned him to 100% wet food. The obesity food he was on pre-diagnosis was full of fibre and he had the most perfect poop of anyone in the house. I started with the simple fixes like pumpkin and psyllium husk but they didn’t help much. The probiotic Saccharomyces Boulardii also didn’t help but it is good to start with. I experimented with a few probiotic capsules and doses before I found one (which was a mix of multiple probiotics) which finally resulted in formed stools. He’s had semi formed stools all through mid April to June :blackeye:

I think Cooper’s case will be a short term one though :)

Here’s some (more ;)) reading for you, if you’re interested.

Cooper has had the opposite reaction since switching to wet food, and then now we have gone the other direction with it lol. I thought he'd be doing amazing since wet food is so much healthier in general than dry--diabetes or not--,but I guess since he's been on dry food for 13 years his system is like what is happening lol!

That's awesome, I'm glad you were able to get it all figured out for the babe! Hopefully it stays that way!

Always, I love learning as much as I can! Thank you! :joyful:
