Hello
here is yesterday:

Eddie and I are preparing for our trip to the coast on Wednesday and I have an insulin-related question.

Eddie's appointment is at 10:30 am. In order to get to the appointment on time from here, we have to leave around 5:00a.m.
Usually, Eddie gets insulin around 8:45am/8:45pm.
Because he's having an imaging procedure, they would like him to be fasted. I told them he requires insulin and one suggestion the intake person had was to stop on the road and give him insulin along with a TBSP of food.
That seems really impractical and potentially as stressful as it could get.
My question is this: somewhere I recall that I could maybe give him some food just before I leave (5:00am) and 1/2 dose of insulin. That way, he'll have at least 6.5 hours before sedation and +8 hours from PMPS the night before.
Is this a good idea? If not would someone please suggest what's the best thing to do?

Can you call and get the vet to respond to this question? Not the intake person. The earlier small meal and 1/2 dose might have been what you did for the dental? But the insulin dose should still be close to his normal schedule. I wouldn't move his insulin dose up that early. If you give insulin on time, it won't have onset by the time his appointment starts, less worry about lower numbers while at the vet.

By the way, I've given Neko insulin and meals on the road, on the ferry, and in the ferry line up. As well as BG testing. It wasn't that hard. Just pull over to a pull out or quiet side road.

I'll call tomorrow.
Re: giving insulin on the road isn't really problem: it's having to probably syringe feed. Oh, wait, maybe I can preload some syringes!

Is he prone to vomiting while traveling if he recently ate? I had one who would puke if fed in a moving car (or within a few hours before) which is not great if you’re giving insulin.

Pre-loaded food syringes are a great idea.

Good luck on your trip. I’ll be thinking of you.
