Good Morning  ( I kind of slept in this morning  )
and Happy 4th of July !!!

J.D. slept in with me until +5 too.
I am still waiting for some poo. Saturday he did a little hard poo. Last night at +2.25 I gave him 1/8 tsp. Miralax, and this morning at +5 I gave him 1/4 tsp. He still seems tired, but wakes right up for food or treats.
Ginger just went into J.D.'s carrier.
I softly volunteered to work today, but luckily they didn't take me up on it. I know I really needed the sleep.

Re: 07/04 J.D. AMPS 302, +5.33 274, +8 217

I defrosted some shrimp to entice him.
He sure perked up when I did that :-D
In California I bought what they call prawns for J.D. which I thought were supposed to be really really big shrimp, but were actually smaller than the large shrimp I buy and feed to J.D.
He bit my finger pretty hard on the last piece I fed him :-|

TIme to come down JD!!

Glad you are safely home and I will keep fingers crossed for a poo for JD today. Ouch on the bite!!! I'm also glad you don't have to work and can relax and recoup today. I hope you enjoyed your visit with your dad even with the unexpected vet visit.

Re: 07/04 J.D. PMPS 359

I wish J.D. would just poo. I'm going to the store to get some pumkin.

He's had one small dry poo since we got back late Friday night.
I guess I'll have to start our midnight walks again.

Re: 07/04 J.D. PMPS 359 still constipated

If I give him pumpkin, can he have some Miralax too?
He just finished his 1st dinner and is currently washing his face.

Re: 07/04 J.D. PMPS 359 still constipated

Dear J.D. please pooo....

You've gone the whole gambit here in the past week or two...

Get some hydration in, add extra water to his food...
Vaseline or hairball remedy
Salmon Oil

Constipation, Obstipation, MegaColon...

J. D....some of those mean surgery.... so we don't want to wait too long...

Just make sure he gets enough water. Both of those are fiber and the miralax should be pulling moisture to the colon.

Re: 07/04 J.D. PMPS 359 still constipated

dyana, do you have any hairball gel? i give a good-sized strip (1") of hairball gel 2 or 3 days in a row as well as miralax when any of mine get constipated. it works every time!

Re: 07/04 J.D. PMPS 359 still constipated

come on, J.D., everybody is now watching for your poo news. If you want the attention off of that, you know what to do...

Re: 07/04 J.D. PMPS 359 still constipated

Dyana, I am going to be out most of the night. I am sort of ...actually more than sort of...concerned.

A blocked colon in a kitty isn't at all good. I know you go back to work tomorrow, but J.D. may need another vet trip. A blocked colon can kill in 24-36 hours. I don't mean to scare you or cause you anymore upset, but I am concerned if the last poo was dry and hard...he may be blocked.

Add in flying, that dehydrates... and J.D. may need IV fluids to get things moving...

Re: 07/04 J.D. PMPS 359 still constipated

He just ate some pumkin with his dinner.

I have Vetbasis which is petroleum free, is that okay? He hates it, but I could force some into his mouth.

I put lots of water in each of his meals and he seems to like it that way, although it's been awhile since he's had it without extra water. This all started with bad stinky diarrhea all day on Wednesday June 22nd. When he still had it on Thursday June 23rd, I took him to my parent's vet. They did a C&S (which came back negative) but put him on Clindamycin for 7 days, and he also had 2 days of Bio-Sponge (an intestinal protectant). She also gave me Metronidazole which he never had to have, because the diarrhea stopped.
He didn't poo the rest of the day Thursday after the vet visit (but I figured he had pooed himself out after all the diarrhea).

On Friday June 24th he had a nice sized poo.

He did not poo on Saturday June 25th or Sunday June 26th.
He often gets constipated when on these California vacations. I remember trying to find or make dirt piles outside hoping that he would take advantage.

On Monday June 27th he had a small hard poo. I was worried that the FortiFlora he was getting because of the antibiotics was stopping him up.

On Tuesday June 28th he did not poo, and I was going to take him in for an enema on Wednesday June 29th (because we were supposed to fly home on Thursday June 30th).

On Wednesday June 29th he pooed a nice dog sized poo a half hour after I gave him 100mg of docusate sodium. But I thought the poo was from the Miralax and not the docusate sodium.

On Thursday June 30th we spent most of the day driving to the airport and back and J.D. had a big poo when we got home.

On Friday July 1st we drove to the airport and then flew to NJ and arrived home around midnight. He did not poo all day.

On Saturday July 2nd he did not poo.

On Sunday July 3rd he pooed two small turds.

I had to go through all my "Yesterday"s to find this information. I think I have it right.

Maybe, since I didn't give him any Miralax yet tonight, and because it may have helped before, I'll give him another dose of the Dulcolax.

Re: 07/04 J.D. PMPS 359 still constipated

Dyana - I give psyllium and pumpkin. I also put as much water as food in his bowl.

Come on JD! We all want you to poo!

Re: 07/04 J.D. PMPS 359 still constipated

Dag Nabit. He just ate some more FF with water and pumpkin. And then he got into his litter box, turned around once, and got out.

Re: 07/04 J.D. PMPS 359 still constipated

I would imagine he's a bit discombulated by the travel and upset tummy in CA. I'm also sending happy poo vibes your way...c'mon J.D. - you can do it!!

Re: 07/04 J.D. PMPS 359 going to ER

No poo. So, I guess I'll take him to the ER.

Re: 07/04 J.D. PMPS 359 - No poo yet. Go to ER?

oh no, I dont know what to suggest, but if you know it in your gut Dyana, mite be a good idea to take him in just in case.
thats a long time without going poo, poor J.D, come on buddy!!

Re: 07/04 J.D. PMPS 359 - No poo yet. Go to ER?

Sending you and J.D. tons of "Poo NOW!!" vines.

Psyllium capsules are 100% husk fiber, and will help for constipation and restoring regularity. I have some incase for my cats.

Re: 07/04 J.D. PMPS 359 - No poo yet. Go to ER?

Hi,Dyana!
Just pop in for support ! Feel so bad for You and JD!
My DH had to go to ER maybe 2months ago for the same reason(it was bad because of chemo).
Poor sweet JD! Maybe he needs 'enema'? No fun to do it,but .....
Hope You don't stay to late (need some sleeep)

Re: 07/04 J.D. PMPS 359 - No poo yet. Go to ER?

((((Dyana)))) I don't know what to say. Does he seem uncomfortable?

I've always said that if Lucy was constipated, all I would have to do would be put her in her carrier and take her to the car. She always goes in the car.

Re: 07/04 J.D. PMPS 359, +3.75 303 - talked to ER vet, not g

She goes poo in the carrier?

J.D. always goes pee on the ER table when I think he's blocked.

Re: 07/04 J.D. PMPS 359, +3.75 303 - talked to ER vet, not g

All this talk about Megacolon got me scared.

I called a brand new ER vet in the area (still about 30 minutes away) but I just found out costs a whole $5.00 cheaper to be seen. I explained the problem to the receptionist and asked how many vets they had on tonight and she said one and two vet techs. Then she put the vet on the phone and we talked. She said to stop giving him stuff and to see if he goes tonight and if not to take him in tomorrow to my regular vet. She made me feel better. But, he still has to gooooooooo!

Re: 07/04 J.D. PMPS 359, +3.75 303 - talked to ER vet, not g

She said that Megacolon could be felt, and asked if any vet had ever felt anything before and I said no. She said he would exibit (sp?) signs of pain (while feeling the abdomen, while trying to poo, when picking him up). He does none of these. Just seems uncomfortable. I just want him to get an enama and feel all better.

Lucy does both #1 and #2 in the carrier, usually before I even get her to the car.

Good luck at the vet tomorrow. I'm glad the ER vet didn't think he needed to come in tonight.

I hope you find a big job in the LB when you get up in the morning. Hope it is all stress related and all will return to normal soon!

I'm glad the ER vet set your mind at ease, but do try to get in to your regular vet tomorrow. Unless of course there is success tonight. Paws crossed!

Re: 07/04 J.D. PMPS 359, +3.75 303 - talked to ER vet, not g

Okay, JD. It is GO TIME!! Gotta get down to business!! Glad the ER vet was able to reassure you, Dyana! Hope you have a good week at work!

Re: 07/04 J.D. PMPS 359, +3.75 303 - talked to ER vet, not g

Johnny is sending J.D. some HUGE "poo dance" vibes. There is nothing more exciting than pooing in a fresh litterbox for Johnny (and then flying around the apartment like he just lost 10 pounds). I hope J.D. can feel the energy.

Good luck, I hope it's soon!

Dyana, I am sorry if I caused you upset. I am sorry I had to leave you hanging, but I thought the link Jill provided would give you some good information too. It just seems this has been going on for a while. First the diarrhea, then the constipation, then hard poo? I am glad you were able to get hold of a vet and discuss the situation. Do you think it is possible the Bio-Sponge supplement he was given by your parent's vet might be interfering? I hope your vet can suggest something to get J.D. regular again... ohmygod_smile
