Started with the drop dose from today

I press the plunger of the empty syringe hard before inserting its needle into the insulin pen and then release my hold on the plunger and take it out.
I checked to see if a drop had gotten in by pressing the plunger again. There was a drop that formed at the tip but not big enough that it fell out on its own. Hopefully the skin absorbs the drop in the time that the needle is within that layer. I usually keep the needle in for 5-10 seconds after injecting.
