So tonight when I gave Kitty her shot, she flinched, stopped eating, and then she wanted to get away. Luckily I pushed the plunger quickly and she still received the dose. Has anyone had this happen? I feel bad because I feel like I caused her pain. I do rotate the injection to different parts of the scruff but I wonder if scar tissue could be building up. I'm not comfortable using other injection sites.

Anyway, she forgave me quickly, I picked her up and we looked out the window together at the neighbor's dog running around, and then she went back to eating.

Have you tried injections just below the shoulders - towards her tail. I found those easy to give as well. Maybe try avoiding the spot you injected tonight for a week if you can.

I haven't tried towards her tail, she's very sensitive the farther down her back you go. I think just below the shoulders is where I usually go, I guess the scruff is a bit higher up toward the neck. I find there is less loose skin if I go higher up her neck so its always been just below the shoulders I guess. I just worry that if the shots continue to cause her pain that she will develop a fear of them.

I alternated left and right, and tried to follow a circle on either side, so it was several days in between shots in the same spot. Can you feel a lump or thickened skin there?

I don’t feel any lumps or thickened skin. I will try to rotate more, sometimes its hard to remember where I shot last.
