Re: 06/26/11 Zener's AMPS 466; +3 367 question about coat

Just did Zener's +3 and BG was on the way down - 4th injection at 1.25 u. He seems to be doing so much better now that he is on the same doses in AM and PM instead of what my vet had us on before I found you all!

I noticed when Zener was diagnosed that he had a lot of "dander" in his coat and thought it was just dirt, as springtime had arrived which means rolling in the backyard time. He loves to roll in his backyard and when that happens our black kitty goes away and is replaced by a dusty brown kitty! However, our vet told us that "dandruff" can be related to his diabetes. I noticed after getting on Lantus this decreased and in the past three days disappeared completely. His coat is bright and shiny, even after a few rolls in the dirt.

Can anyone educate me on how the diabetes can cause the problems with his skin/coat?

Re: 06/26/11 Zener's AMPS 466; +3 367 question about coat

Hi Anne and Zener,

I too have noticed Leo's coat is all shiny and he no longer has dandruff.

Was Zener on dry food before? it seems to me I noticed Leo looking a lot more shiny when I switched him to strictly wet food. Could be the same with your kitty too. Better diet equals healthy kitty!

Thanks for that information. And yes, we transitioned Zener to wet food at the same time he was switched to Lantus, so that certainly could be a factor!

Re: 06/26/11 Zener's AMPS 466; +3 367 question about coat

HI there!

I don't think I had stopped by your condo before so just wanted to say nice to meet you!

Junior experienced the same dandruff problem when he was diagnosed with diabetes. Once he was on insulin it cleared up he's now back to the way he was before. I don't think the dandruff is related to diet b/c he didn't have it when he was on dry and he doesn't have it now. I wonder if it's related to their grooming. Junior just stopped grooming when he was super sick.

Re: 06/26/11 Zener's AMPS 466; +3 367 question about coat

Thanks for the welcome and the info. His grooming definitely was absent in the beginning and just now is getting back to pre-diagnosis levels. Things improved a little on the Humulin N, but since being on Lantus so many of his other signs and symptoms are reduced or resolved. Now, if we can just get him regulated that will be fantastic!

Re: 06/26/11 Zener's AMPS 466; +3 367 : +6 313 ATrak

Zener's BG is slowly coming down today. Looks much smoother yesterday and today than 06/24/11 day 2 of what I called "found the Lantus group"! His appetite is improving and I wonder if the lows on day 2 could have been related to poor eating? I have to be away for the next few hours and home just in time for PMPS and evening shot. Will post results then. Also, I changed my user name from axwphart to Anne and Zener and added a picture of the big guy.

Re: 06/26/11 Zener's PMPS 267 ATrak Are we making progress?

Zener's PMPS was 267. Gave 5th shot at 1.25 u. All is posted on his SS. Haven't seen the big ups and downs like 2 days ago, so I am hoping we are making progress. His appetite is returning and I haven't had to hand feed him or use anything to stimulate his appetite today. Zener had a good day and was playing with his catnip sock in between naps and meals. Will post PM +3 BG before bedtime.

So, how are we doing so far?
