Since the last food was at +7.5, that 83 is on his own without support of carbs. It is up (a bit) from that +7.5. How much can you monitor today? Are you planning to take him to the vet today?

I'm trying to get an appointment with one of three vets. I can monitor most of the day with the exception of +2.5 - 3.5. I'm thinking of giving him 8u.
 
Last night was influenced by the 10.5 unit depot and the 10 unit dose you gave in the AM. However, if you are following SLGS, you can take back to back reductions and give that 8 units. Plus - could be post SRT action so caution OK.
 
Have decided to take Eddie into the critical care/emerg vet as the other "regular" vets are booked up and do not have the capacity to really pay attention to what is happening with Eddie. The IM vet is associated with the critical care vet so there will be continuity between them and me.

Partial update: Eddie is at the critical care clinic. At first glance, vet says he has a loose tooth but that in her view "dental conditions don't stop a cat from eating". Well, let's let that one slide.

She says his bladder is nearly empty and wondering where is he peeing then? They are doing a lateral xray and lab tests, including for pancreatitis.

She also said maybe he could come home and I'm really feeling resistant to that suggestion this time. Eddie has not been eating. I told her syringe feeding is not the way to go and we need to find out why he isn't eating.

She's going to call me after the xray and tests.
 
I’m glad to see an update, even if only partial.

Are they getting a urine sample and doing a C&S as well? It never hurts to rule out a UTI.

Does he still have diarrhea? A stool sample wouldn’t hurt either.

Cats can dehydrate very quickly when they’re not eating, which can make them feel punky, which can make them inappetent, and it can become a vicious cycle. It can be hard to “catch up” without IV fluids, so I’m glad he’s at the clinic.

Here’s hoping for some answers soon, easy (and cheap!) resolution, and for healthy kidneys (for good measure).
 
Further update:

They will be checking for UTI; unable to do so at the time of phone call as not enough urine in bladder. No pancreatitis, which is great. Kidney values good.

They will be holding him for awhile: rehydration, urine analysis and Mirtazapine. Anything else? I don't want to miss anything....

Ondansetron prescription if you don't have some already at home. Hopefully that mirtazapine is as Mirataz form. Did they say anything about you doing fluids at home?

I'll ask for the Ondansetron. They didn't say anything about doing fluids as they didn't think he was all that dehydrated. i said I noticed that when I was giving him insulin the "tent" of skin at the scruff was a bit sticky...not much but I noticed it.
I imagine they'll call me around 7:00 pm here PST....
 
No UTI, good kidney values, no pancreatitis. Eddie has been hydrated and even before he had mirtazapine he ate some chicken...I'm going to pick him up now. The vet said if he goes sideways again, he can always come back but she feels he's good to go! Phew.

Nothing like a good mystery. There is literally no actual explanation for the past few days. Could be this. Could be that. One good thing: they will provide a referral to the dental specialist so I don't have to go through another regular vet and pay to have them go, "Yep, he needs a dental". The Mirtazapine is miraculous. The used a gel on his ears and sent me home with a couple days supply (liquid) if needed. Likewise more Gabapentin.

So, tonight PMPS 135. I gave him 8u this morning and likewise tonight.
 
Were you able to get an Ondansetron script?

It’s amazing how much IV fluids can perk them up. I’ve had mixed results with mirtazapine (had a couple of cats who got all weird and vocal and clearly distressed) so am glad to hear it worked well for Eddie and that he’s feeling better and eating again.

Just curious, what’s the status of his stools?

Since he had eaten almost nothing but syringe-sized meals, there was very little. Ultrasound and xray showed no constipation and only a small amount of urine in the bladder, which is why he stayed longer at the clinic so they could get a sample, which showed negative for UTI.

Eddie is much better @PM +8
