Spaz has still stayed in the blue for the insulin free week. I'm looking forward to the vet on Sunday to see what the next course of action is. I do think he needs to be back on insulin for a bit longer and will mention this to the vet when I see him.

I've read that Siamese are more prone to diabetes than other breeds of cats and I wonder if it is due to the fact that they don't deal with stress very well. Spaz is what I would call a very "sensitive" kitty and his BG always seems to be higher when he is anxious (e.g. When I don't arrive home at my usual time).

I've also noticed that his BG seems to be higher when I feed him the beef FF pate rather than the poultry based pates. I don't think I'll be buying the beef again once I have used up the case that I have.

I'll update again after Spaz's appt Sunday morning.

We were having a discussion today on Skooter's condo about failed reductions, ie, when the dose is reduced followed by the cat's blood glucose tests trending higher. You might be interested in some of it. This part in particular, i thought might apply to Spaz's situation.

from the Tilly's site under "reducing the dose":
If the cat will not stay in the normal range after a reduction, immediately increase the dose again to the last good dose. Sometimes, a cat can even manage to keep its BGs low for a day or two, but then the BGs begin to rise again because the beta-cells haven't recovered enough yet. Try to go from 0.25 IU to a drop before stopping the insulin completely. Reducing the dose too quickly generally does not work: most cats do not go into remission with fast reductions.

I think beef is a fairly common allergen for cats.

Good luck with your vet appointment!
