Good morning LL peeps!

I'm at the vet dentist.... sitting on the couch and using their internet network.
Sorry for polluting Lantus land with non insulin related issues.... It just feels like home here.

Poor Tizon! He will be toothless when I walk out of here!

I saw the xrays and ... it's pretty bad. Most of his teeth have broken or are hanging on by a thread. His gums are red and inflamed and the roots of a lot of his teeth have started to resorb. The only ones which were Ok were the upper canines (I teeth). It was the vet's opinion that since all the other teeth are coming out (well the ones that are still there and the roots are getting another treatment) and considering that Tizon's health is good enough to go under (vs in a couple of years when he will likely have to come back to have them removed anyways) that they should come out.
I'm at the specialist, i'm already beating my wallet into a pulp, Jess said that she would consider marrying the guy (sorry Jess :) ).... it is also his opinion that the benefit of removing those 2 remaining teeth outweigh leaving them in... my baby will be toothless!

Recovery will not be easy I suspect.... nailbite_smile .... but Jojo prepared me....
I'll be send home with codeine paste (to be applied to his ear).... still.... I feel for my baby boy. The only thing that comforts me is that it must be in pain and after a few days he should be painfree... and that's gotta count for a lot!!!!!!!

Re: 06/03 Tizon Dental Day

Well Helene...it's not as if he needs any teeth to rip apart his food, right? If there are so many issues with them best to have them all out. Good riddance! Their teeth can be such a source of annoyance and pain to them so this will improve his mouth totally! Hope he will manage the pain in the beginning well...and then, he will have a happy mouth!
I think you are doing the BEST for Tizon today! HUGS to you both and wishes for an uneventful procedure and a speedy recovery! :YMHUG:

Re: 06/03 Tizon Dental Day

awwwwwwww ((((((((tizon))))))))) and ((((((((helene)))))))))

It sounds like you are pretty well prepared and grounded for this procedure.
I hope Tizon feels better once its done and gets through the recovery process.

Hang in there!
(nice they have internet service for you to use! Now ya know where your $'s going  )

How long will the procedure take? You gonna stay there the whole time? Well, hope you like the cartoon.
Hey, you asked about something called "sleep" in my condo....what is this "sleep" that you referred to?
Strange word...can you explain what it is to me please?

Some reading material while you are sitting there: Fangs A Lot...

Hope the time passes quickly...do you have a book? Can't wait till you can bring him home... :YMHUG:

Re: 06/03 Tizon Dental Day

poor tizon! But his momma will help him heal up after his trip to the dentist and in a few days he will be better then new! When mocha had her dental she had 8 teeth extracted and she seemed to do pretty good with healing up. Of course, that isn't a full mouthful by any means!

Re: 06/03 Tizon Dental Day

aww poor Tizon...speedy recovery Tizon, the pain will pass and you'll be good to go!
(((Helene)))) he'll be ok, he's in very good hands and has a wonderful mom!

Re: 06/03 Tizon Dental Day

Helene-- Moonie has 6 teeth left & my civvie has just a few--They eat chicken pieces(real), halos, and anything that has to be chewed, they manage--I feel your upset, but you know you are doing the right thing--
At Moonie's last dental the vet called & said she needs 4 more extractions, but she wont need any more dentals-OK?
I said yes(so she had 9 teeth out in the last 2 yrs)--It was the best thing ever ,not having to face any more dentals ohmygod_smile
Now Civvie needs one, but I will get there soon--
Sending any easy recovery to Tizon, who's bean loves him so much, she does her very best for him, and Quick healing vines too!
You Need Hugs Today!!

Re: 06/03 Tizon Dental Day

Poor baby! And hugs to the bean. I see lots of baby food in Tizon's immediate future. Please send an update when you can.

Re: 06/03 Tizon Dental Day

(((Helene)))

Doodle had all his teeth extracted back in Oct of 2009. He actually had quite a few removed earlier in the year and I wish I had insisted on having them all axtracted during the earlier dental, rather than having him go through another procedure.
It was rough... and his recovery was not pretty... but in the end I'm glad we did it.
He does just fine with eating - he still carries his toys around in his mouth - and he seems to feel a lot better in general.
If the teeth are bad - they gotta go. And besides toothless kitties are just cute :)
Many many hugs to (((Tizon)))

Re: 06/03 Tizon Dental Day

Hi Helene,
Tizon will do just fine without his teeth. Our Alice (GA) had very few teeth left. They fell out by themselves over the years. She never had problems eating (and she ate kibble, because we didn't know any better then). Tizon will feel much better without the tooth pain that he undoubtedly has been living with. We wish you and him a good procedure today and a speedy recovery (and a speedy recovery for your checkbook, too!).

But he won't need any more dentals after this! Just think of that, this is his last ever dental you'll need to stress over!

And he'll feel much better after. Just baby him for the next few days, k? We're sending safe and easy dental vines.

Re: 06/03 Tizon Dental Day

Well hopefully the wallet won't get too banged up! Having gone through dentals with Maui and Sydney, I know just how banged up it can get.

And Tizon, my man, what's this about giving up your teeth? You do know to ask them to give you all your teeth, so you can put them under your pillow, so the tooth fairy will give you money for them. Man you'll be rich with all those teeth out of your mouth!

But I'm sorry, you may look really funny and I'll let you recuperate at my pool, but please don't embarrass me by trying to smile -- ok.

Signed,
Maui The Magnificent

Re: 06/03 Tizon Dental Day

Poor Tizon! cat_pet_icon cat_pet_icon But he will feel so much better afterward and NO MORE DENTALS ! Yeah !!! WE all know he will get the bestest care during recovery. ((((((Helene))))))

Re: 06/03 Tizon Dental Day - we're home

Well... thank you everyone! And yes, this is his 1st and last dental!

The vet said that he would email me the xrays so I'll share for the purpose of 'education'. This should serve as a lesson to all little kids... see what happens when you don't brush your teeth?

We made it home. Tizon walked out of the carrier and a bit like a drunk continued to walk around a little more. When his brother came around, Tizon thought best to hide from the young energetic pest and for now, he's hiding in the closet. Just sitting there with his tail sticking under the clothes. I am keeping an eye on him, however, I want to leave him a little alone while he is in the "screw off world" phase. I've petted him and kissed him a few times before he went in the closet. I'll give him a few more hours before offering food, although there is food out in case he wants it.

Because of his less-than-slender figure, Mr. Tizon will get codeine TID. I was given little finger gloves as to not self medicate while trying to medicate the patient.

I must say that I am very much impressed by the care and the professionalism of this Vetbean dentist. I'm glad I decided to go there.

I have like 12 flavours of FF and alike in the house. I haven't gotten babyfood yet, but it's a 2 min drive to the grocery store if I need to. I should be good...

Thanks again for all your encouragements. :YMHUG:

Re: 06/03 Tizon Dental Day

Poor Tizon. Jake had almost every tooth removed last September due to advanced peridontal disease. He was about 18 at the time and it was a very rough couple of days at first. He just laid there and didn't get up. Then he vomited most of his food, couldn't get his full dose, etc.. I syringe fed him and gave him chicken baby food. He perked up and within a week was back to his old self. Wish I'd known about the codeine ear gel stuff. They gave Jake pain pills - yeah right. Pills for a cat in extreme mouth pain. Then the vet also pointed out that the pain meds could make him not want to eat. I did my best to syringe him the pills and it worked out.

Jake and I wish all the best for Tizon and a speedy recovery. He will be back to his old self in a few days and much happier toothless, I imagine.

Re: 06/03 Tizon Dental Day

I feel bad for his sore mouth.
Glad it is his LAST dental. Noisy never had to get one cause he didn't have any teeth. :-D

Re: 06/03 Tizon Dental Day

Glad he is home and a little dopey. Hope he is not in too much pain. Thanks for the update. Hope you have a balance of a good day.

glad to hear tizon is home .. home is where you always want to be when you don't feel good, I'm sure it's the same for our kitties too ..

Dentals are always so nervewracking. Glad it's over, and he'll never need another. He will feel a lot better once he feels, he was probably used to discomfort and now look out!

I had to give KB pain killer with a syringe in the mouth. Darn things were not a smooth delivery, I'll never understand why they give you things like that for sore mouthed kitties.

Hope he heals quickly!

I wish Tizon a speedy recovery. I just went thru this with Maggie and she's recovered nicely. Gerber Stage 2 baby food went over well with her.

That Codeine transdermal gel to rub on the inner ear flaps must be pretty good because when I put it on Shadoe's ears she got loopy and did not like getting it applied.
But that's OK because whenever I put it on her ears, Booboo would scoot over and lick it all off. Apparently it must be good stuff because Booboo doesn't like much of anything!

I hope Tizon comes around soon, but I am sure the special foods you got him will speed things along, ;-)

((((Helene)))) ((((Tizon))))

Poor babies..both of you! What a day ohmygod_smile

Tizon is gonna look so adorable when he smiles his little toofless smile to say "thank you mommy, I feel so much better now"
when he actually is feeling better

Until then, just give him his codeine and play some cool music for him (heck, it always works for me)
Sending big hugs :YMHUG: :YMHUG: , one for each, and healing the no toofies vines Tizon's way!

Love, ♥
Caryl, Alex and Jackson  (we are only using this smiley tonight because we don't want to flaunt teeth)

Sending quick healing vines to Tizon. Hope he gets used to his no toofies and has a quick recovery.
Poor baby cat_pet_icon

what a day, I'm sure the toofless Tizon will be out of the closet before long. Jojo always says to give them a dark place to hang out so that's just right. Poor guy, but I bet he'll be feeling GREAT soon.

Feel better soon, Tizon!

I'm hoping to get Kasha a dental but the vet wants her BG numbers a little more stable before we do that (keep in mind I talked to her before Kasha's ABs were really kicking in and her numbers were high, high, high). Guess we've got a lot to look forward to! I just don't know what she would do if she couldn't pierce me with those little teeth of hers!

Well, thank goodness for closets!!!
So glad he has a little place to be alone and recover. Whew...what a day for you both!
Hoping he feels better and better with each new day....he will be fine very soon. So glad those
nasty teeth are gone....he will feel so much better now without them.
(((Helene & Tizon)))

So glad you are home, and that Tizon is hanging in there. The poor guy - bet he has one sore mouth. In the long run you've probably done the best thing for him. It is nice to read too that you had an awesome vet dentist. I hope all goes well, and that recovery is speedy. Codeine huh? wow - the don't mess around. That too probably is a good idea. Take care.

Tizon - you ok? i had a dental a few weeks ago - not fun. I hope they gave you super duper meds! I am thinking of you. ~~ mannie

Just so you don't worry...he may seem a little worse tomorrow Helene -- that's normal.
But I hope he just decides this wasn't so bad and heals up without any trouble at all!

Still seem that the closet is his place to be. I got him out twice, tried to encourage him to snack... nothin.... I think he's a little nauseous, he was liking his lips a little.

At 7:30 he got another dose of codeine and he ran back upstairs in the closet. :YMSIGH:
DH thinks I'm going to sleep in the closet and honestly... I'm considering it, however it's not a walk in - it's probably a confined space

I'm going to take my boy back downstairs to try to encourage him to snack and I'll go have a nap until 3 Am when I'll get to give him another ear rub.

Thanks you everyone again for your support. I'm sure Tizon appreciates that his friends care about his health. The bean definitely appreciates it!

Michelle, thanks for the warning... I just hope he'll find it in him to eat a little, and I'm not kidding, I have all kinds of food for him including all kinds of illegals. ... I don't really want to be adding a feeding tube to the puzzle.... Codeine TID should help him feel a little less sorry for himself....

Shadoe liked her ff pate mixed with lots of water and she was better to lap it up like a soupy slop so it got the food in and she did not have to do any chewing, or in Tizon's case, gumming. Maybe if you put a little bowl just outside the closet, he'll come out and try some,.

I think the only thing Doodle would eat for a few days after his full gummy was watery baby food - and I was getting stressed that he wasn't eating...but he finally did. Just keep offering - he'll find something irresistable.
I understand wanting to sleep in the closet with him - I locked Doodle in my room for days and slept on a pallet on the floor with him

you've already received great advice. just wanted to stop by to wish you and tizon well.
so happy to hear the dental is over and done with and he's home with you now.
sending healing and speedy recovery vines...
