Hello everyone!

Today is Juno 4th consecutive day in the greens with almost any insulin :mrgreen:. I'm quite happy with his last readings, but also a bit afraid that I'm not doing the right thing and keep thinking that he can go back to the high levels at any moment. I have been slowly down his dose and right now I'm giving him a micro-dose of insulin only in the evening. I have some questions and I hope some of you can help me on what to do.

Should I keep giving him the tiny dose of insulin until he goes below the 50 to start the OTJ trial? Right now I'm giving him only 0.15u once a day (yesterday I gave him almost nothing by mistake... ). I'm also not sure if it's enough to give him this dose only once a day. Could you please advise me on this? Thanks a lot!

well . . . the technical answer is that 2 shots a day are best with Lantus. but juno seems to want to do things his own way. i guess i'd say that what you are doing is working.

one way that we reduce the dose is if the cat goes under 50. another reason that we reduce the dose is if the cat stays 7 days in normal numbers (50-120) on any particular dose, even if they don't go under 50.

so i think i'd keep on doing what you are doing and if he doesn't trend up, assume it's still working. keep it up for 7 days on one dose and then let's see if he'll continue to hold it on an OTJ trial. Just don't get complacent and assume because it's a tiny dose that he can't go low on it - keep up the testing.

Thank you so much Julie! I will keep this dose for 7 more days if he keeps being in the greens, unless he goes below 50. I think there's no harm if I give this same dose or even a tiny less dose for one more week, but I'll keep testing. I've been very cautious with the tiny dose. That's probably why yesterday I gave him less than what I should... I really don't want to rush things and, as you said before, the longer I can give him the tiny dose of insulin, the best for his pancreas.
