Scout still has a Freestyle Libre 14 placed which I've been using for his BG readings. It will stop working soon so a friend gave me a Bayer Contour glucometer to begin home testing. My 1st attempt (and 2nd & 3rd) tonight were complete fails - didn't get even a hint of blood. I still gave him a treat and called it a night. I used a lancet device and he didn't seem to hate it at least. I warmed up his ear by massaging it. We'll try again tomorrow using a warm compress.

I failed the first few times as well, so don’t worry. It happens to most of us in the beginning. Well done for starting the process. You will get there!

It took me more than a few times, stick with it. I tried all the recommendations - I had most luck with a little jar filled with warm water. Heated sock of rice did not work for me at all! Also putting a bit of vaseline on the ear helps to get the blood to pool instead of soaking into the fur. Even now (3 months in) I quite often have to poke a few times before I get blood. I feel very guilty but fortunately she is pretty tolerant. You'll get there.
