I have a vet appointment that I was planning on cancelling today. I originally made it because Ginger starting coughing really bad after a purring session. I haven't seen her do it again. But then J.D. did it once, a few days later, and not again.
Yesterday before I left for work, I had 2 minutes before leaving the house and went to clean the litter boxes and knelt down in a wet spot on the kitty litter littered carpet. I have two boxes. One tall one (about 14 inches high on the sides) and one regular one. I figured that one of the cats (probably J.D. because he gets right next to the wall of the box to pee) had missed and went over the edge. This morning I went to check and there is more wetness outside the litter box, so I am going to take J.D. in. We have to leave in like 5 minutes. Otherwise he seems very fine, happy, purring, eating...

it's always interesting to try to guess which cat needs to go to the vet when you can't catch them in the act. Good luck at the vet!

I took J.D. to the vet all is good.
Both cats have an appointment in 2 weeks...J.D.'s bi-annual blood work and check up, and Ginger's annual check up, and they're due for their rabies shots. When the vet mentioned giving J.D. his rabies shot today, the vet mentioned something about the dead virus, and I asked about the live virus, and he said the dead virus is good for 3 years and the live is good for 1 year. I told him about the nodules they both got in the past from vaccines, and decided to wait for our next appointment in 2 weeks to decide which vaccine to give. I'll probably opt for the 1 year and no worries.

I brought J.D.'s meds with me to ask about their expiration dates: Mirtazapine and Cyproheptadine both prescribed in 2008 and he said he thought they would be okay. I also asked about the Phenoxybenzamine (urinary sphincter relaxant) and would it be okay to give him one before the 6 1/2 hour flight, just in case the stress of the car rides to the airport and the airport itself brings on one of his stress related pee problems (he sometimes gets temporary bladder issues where he goes in and out and in and out of the litter box desparately trying to pee and only peeing a couple drops. It's stressful for him, and has always gone away after about 15 to 30 minutes) and the vet said it would be okay. So, I think I'll do that. Anyone know a reason why I should not? He won't have eaten much before leaving for the airport and will be in his carrier for about 12 hours and will most likely not eat again until very late (in the middle of the night) of the day we land.

So, that's my story. Sorry, it's so long. I did mention to a lady in line with a diabetic cat about the FDMB :)

The kitties are lounging outside, enjoying a beautiful day. Oh and, J.D. got a shrimp when we got home :)

I have tons of errands and chores to do on this one day off, I have..

He peed at +2 (normal) when I got the ketone test.
He peed at +3 (a normal amount again) on the vet table, and the vet collected the urine to do his testing.
He peed (a lot more) on the vet table, once the vet left the office to go get the results.
And now he is back and forth up and down the stairs to the litter boxes and nothing comes out (well one time he pooed), because there's nothing left in his bladder, I would guess.
I have to run to the banks before they close. If he's still doing it when I return, I'll give him the pill. He's done this 3 times before and it always went away fairly quickly, so I am guessing he will be fine when I get home.
 
how nice of him to perform before the vet, though. you know how it is when you see a symptom, you take them in, and the symptoms gone and you feel a bit stupid trying to explain it.

Actually, he was acting great this morning. It was just the pee over the side of the litter box that concerned me a little. I thought IF does have an infection, I'd rather get it cleared up now, as we are leaving for vacation in 4 weeks.
I asked the vet "what are the signs of an infection and he said he would keep trying to go to the bathroom and little or nothing would come out". I told the vet that that is what J.D. does when he has his "pee problem" but it goes away quickly.
And sure enough when I got him home, he had to have the symptoms again. Maybe it's just all in "my" head. :roll:
The first two times it happened I took him to the ER because I thought maybe he was blocked or something. He could only pee a drop or two at a time and seemed miserable and desparate to pee, and both times he then peed on the exam table a nice normal flowing pee (the 2nd time (because he had just emptied himself) they then gave him fluids and waited to do a C&S and when they finally turned him on his back (or whatever they do) to do the C&S he peed in their face :lol: The third time it happened, was when we just arrived at work, and he had peed a bunch in his carrier on the ride to work, and then did this frantic in and out and in and out of the litter box...and his feet and fur and tail were sopping wet from sitting in his pee...and he got litter all over the carpet under my desk.. ohmygod_smile but he was fine after about 15 minutes.
Today, my (J.D.'s) regular vet was not available, so we saw a vet we haven't seen since 2005 when J.D. was first diagnosed. Maybe, that was part of the stress problem, today.

+6.75 was 249. J.D. had a nice afternoon laying outside, and it just now started raining again so we're all back inside.
 
Gee whiz... after all that, I feel like I need to pee. ohmygod_smile

Glad that J.D.'s check-up and results looked good today.
And I bet he's happy about the shrimp.
