I was so nervous dosing tonight because his numbers were so low.. but I did give it to him because he just starting to go up.. was it the right thing to do??? I am nervous because he does drops of 50% at times.. I am going to keep checking him tonight and make sure he doesnt go too low especially since yesterday finding out about Mr. Grey's spreadsheet and learning about the crashing. :!:

I think you did a great job with shooting tonight. Great numbers for Rory today! Woohoo! I didn't mean to scare you, Var-ee, with Mr. Grey's spreadsheet. I actually find it very encouraging to see that a cat can be in high numbers and then be in normal numbers (50 to 120). That's our goal with Zener but it's never happened for more than a couple of days. Oh well, we keep trying.  You are doing a great job with testing so you'll catch any lower numbers. Make sure you have medium carb and high carb food and maybe some karo syrup or honey and you and Rory will be fine. How is he feeling today?

Nice to see more yellows and less pink on Rory's spreadsheet. I always worried about Neko dropping like a rock when she started at lower numbers, but their curves are shallower when they start lower. That's one of the good things about Lantus when you get towards the right dose, nice gentler curves most of the time. On this board, we say it's generally OK to shoot above 150. Below that, post the number, don't shoot or feed and ask for help and a more experienced member can step you through.

hmmm Im not sure if I have any carbs in any food except I did keep some grain free dry food in the cupboard.. I have honey but dont know what karo is
I just gave him some new food from BFF today that just came in the store.. it is in pouches. its all tuna and other meats.. but I have been giving him more fancy feast pate lately and well... he will gobble up any food in the house, I have to be careful because Reilly gets robbed
.. little monster wants to stay out on the deck all night lately.. he likes to listen to the frogs I think ..I dont mind really but I miss having the company
I did a reading and he was slightly higher 2 hours after his shot so will watch tomorrow.. I think this is a good dose he is on though

What is called karo in the US is corn syrup here. But you can also use maple syrup or honey and add a couple of drops to regular low carb food to make high carb. Dry food takes too long to enter the blood stream and stays around longer. When Rory goes low (below 50/2.8), you want to bring him up faster and that's when you use the high carb wet or low carb with corn syrup/honey/maple syrup. I keep a few cans of fancy feast with gravy around for the times when Neko goes low.

great idea Wendy I will get some of the gravy one for emergencies. I think he has been enjoying the nights on the deck since the warmer weather began. I will check him at 7am again

Thanks for translating, Wendy. I knew Karo was probably an American brand. That's so cute that Rory is wanting to be outside. :-D
