well that bounce didn't last long!

were looking good so far. i don't know whats changed from the 8u to this dose but i cannot believe the difference. i have to say though and im being completely honest.im almost scared (well terrified really) of seeing the green numbers i suppose cos i don't know whether hes going to go lower and im not used to them and plus with being on alphatrak i know really its even lower so i worry................LOTS!!!! at least im at home the next couple of days to see what happens!

Looking GREAT Mr. Bailey! :-D :-D Way to break that bounce quickly too!

The first few times of low numbers is always scary. But you are in control of the numbers with food. Do you have some high carb wet food around? Usually something with gravy, often wheat as the ingredient. Or honey or corn syrup. Always good to make sure you have HC and plenty of strips, just in case.

And remember, low numbers (below 68) on the AT, mean you get to start moving the dose down instead of up. And right now he's in normal blood glucose numbers for a cat. I'd test every hour at this point. If he gets to around 85, I'd move up to every 1/2 hour testing.

having the bounce last less than a day after so many weeks of high numbers is simply fantastic! This means that his body is getting accustomed to normal numbers. WOOT!

i wonder if the previous Lantus had lost some of its potency. You started a new pen/vial on the 25th and you've had 3 days of blue/green numbers since then. We can't know, but it's something to keep in mind. How old was it? And thanks for recording the date you started new insulin on your spreadsheet - it helps.

Once you have experience with steering his low numbers using carbs, you'll realize that you are in control of his low blood sugar numbers. you'll be able to give carbs to bring him up just a little bit into the safe zone, and hopefully he'll "surf" and spend some time in those good numbers. The longer we can keep him in good numbers, the better. Normal numbers on the AT are going to be 68-160ish.

If you don't have the Low Numbers sticky printed out, you should do that. Just in case the board is wonky when you need help.

Enjoy your days off! Bailey is no doubt happy to have you home. by the way, i saw in a post a couple of days ago you mentioned your mom - any chance she'd be willing to learn how to test him? it'd be great to have her as a day-time back-up when you need it.

thanks for all the advice. yeah my other lantus was about 5-6 months old. i did wonder about that and even asked the pharmacist if it was ok and she seemed to think if itd been kept in the fridge but you just never know do you? this time ive bought the 5 x 10ml vials as those are much more practical and means ive always got spares! my thought was that even though he was in pain and had cystitis and had the most stressful time at the vets where usually his bloody sugars would rise...really high they didn't and he was still only 236/254 so im gonna have to really monitor him over the next couple of days if it is say the lantus for example.we'll c and il do my best!

ive printed out the sticky about low numbers. its just abit scary cos theyre a new thing for him and i :-D

my mum doesn't feel comfortable taking blood from him as hes quite nervous around her. so although she goes in to see if hes ok,he'll go and hide under the bed so i wonder sometimes whether im doing the right thing sending her to check on him.

well ive given shot at 128.eeek! hes had his dinner with it and after that preshot number so lets see what happens.im ready with the honey and all kinds.haha cos im thinking that he isn't going to want more food even high carb when hes just had his dinner! I may test every half hour now just to be on the safe side.ive had 3 hours sleep so il b ok for abit.

heehee YOU GO GIRL! That's your first green preshot - it's about 95ish on the human meters! wahoo!

get a +1 and a +2 - let's make sure he's not diving.

will do.ive got 185 for +1 so hes ok. its nearly 4am here. what with bailey and my 13 month old niece whos staying over night (whilst mummy and daddy have abit of a night out) il be lucky if I get anymore than 3 hours sleep.il catch up tomorrow.id rather know what my boys bloods are doing!

edited to say,it looks like weve had a bounce but not as high as yesterday. I see a pattern forming here ;-)
