hello everyone :) sorry for not posting yesterday!! Been busy as of late bjt Pookies been doing good!! He did drop low the other night I wasn't able to test but he slept in bed with me during the night and was ok, I fed before I went to bed as well and during the night, he bounced a bit during the day yesterday, but not very high and has be staying in decent numbers otherwise !! He seems to be doing really well on this dose so far but not quite enough yet for a reduction
 
I actually wonder with that 54 @+2 the other night if he very well could have earned a reduction if you had kept testing him. We will never know. But i hope you were feeding him higher carb food all night to keep him safe.

I am so sorry I just saw this, I was able to monitor him all night but I didn't test, he was fine during the night , he sleeps in the bed so I was able to keep a close eye on him

I'm curious when you say you're monitoring him, but not testing, what are you monitoring for, and how are you monitoring?

I've caught Butters as low as 25, right in the midst of a regular cycle >50. She was sitting on the couch, grooming herself without a care in the world. I would never have known her BG was so dangerously low from looking at her. She, and many other kitties, show absolutely zero symptoms of being too low, but that doesn't mean there isn't damage being done by too low numbers.

It will explain to you what can happen when kitties stay low, and why it is so important to test to find the low numbers and intervene immediately. I hope you will read it and decide to test him more when he is low.

Yeah I was just keeping an eye on him during the night hur I didn't know they could get that low and be acting just totally fine still!! I definitely am trying my best it's just really hard for me to get uo in the nights sometimes especially since Dalton works nights mostly !!

And yes I fed him some higher card foods wirh his evening meal and through the night we have a can of both kinds in the fridge at all times now since he somwtimes get lows like that!! We already had shot him when he was 86 so I wasn't sure if he shoukd have earned a reduction or not so we just decided to stick with his normal and feed some high card along with his regular bone high card food
 
you are doing great! It is so very hard to wake up at night! Pookie seems to be a better behaved cat than my hercs, so I don't think Elise is suggesting you wake up every night, but the 54 might be one to try and do it. You see the yellows showing up the next day, which suggest he did go low. All other nights he has been good, so soon you'll learn which numbers are worth setting the alarm. Here is hoping it will not be often!

Thank you so much ❣️❣️ I will full heartily take that into consideration he has been staying reliably stable with his numbers as of late but I guess just got a tiny bit complacent with them!!
 
ok just gave his pmps and is just above greens ill get more tests in tn, I was also wondering if anyone has any advice, Is there anything that is cat safe to put on their ears/anything to help soothe them!! just feel bad seeing how sometimes you can really see where he's been poked !! haha sorry if this is a weird question! its just been on my mind
 
Is vaseline an option where you are? I remember there is an antibiotic cream that everyone used in North America that you are not supposed to anymore. Maybe post on the general feline health board?
 
We found out the antibiotic cream has an ingredient in it that is bad for cats. I use coconut oil on Furball's ear. Just a tiny dab when I'm done testing for the night.
 
Thank you @carfurby & @Hercule's mum i do have a big jar of Vaseline currently we will try that!! But I've used coconut oil before for myself a lot so I'll try it as well and see what works best for him!!! I've looked into it and I agree I don't think antibiotic over the shelf store brand are good for cats, even polysporn! We try rotating which ear gets poked the most but his left Ear is a little more pricked so even when we poke he really bleeds now !!! So wanna give it a break and try and he'll it heal a little
