04/30 Kitty PMPS 165 +2 137 +3.5 130 +4.25 128

Do you leave soon after her shot? Do you have the flexibility to move her shot time such that you can get a +1.5 or +2 before you leave for work? Or would that be too early in the morning?

I cannot think of any other way to schedule it.

My work schedule varies each day. I can be scheduled as follows:
8:00am - 5:00pm
9:00am - 6:00pm
10:00am - 7:00pm
11:00am - 8:00pm

Which is why I chose 8:00am and 8:00pm for her shots so when I work the earliest shift I can do it a little earlier and when I work the latest shift I can do it a little later.

So, I can occasionally get a +2 when I work 11-8, a +1.75 when I work 10-7, or a +0.75 when I work 9-6.

That being said, even if I did get those readings at those times, I have no idea what to do with that information, and there isn’t always time to post on here for advice.

A test at +2 can act like a crystal ball of what the rest of the cycle is going to look like.
  • If the +2 is about the same as the PS, it's usually going to be a pretty normal cycle - gradually down to nadir and then gradually back up to the next PS.
  • If the +2 is a lot higher than the PS, that usually means there's a bounce starting and it's usually OK to take a little bit of a break from testing.
  • If the +2 is (a lot) lower than the PS, that's your early warning that it could be an "active" cycle and numbers might go a lot lower later in the cycle and it's important to try to get more tests (or feed higher carbs if you are going out the door).
Of course, some cats have an onset later in the cycle like +2.5 or +3. In that case, a test at +2.5 or +3 would be a better indicator than a +2.

Thank you for explaining this with such detail. It's really helpful information for me.

Well... I see it ended up being a really BEAUTIFUL blue day for Kitty! Your work schedule is challenging! I hope today will be just as lovely as yesterday. Take care, Corey.

Yes, I'm loving the consistent blues! My work schedule is a bit challenging now that she's approaching lower numbers. I want to keep her in lower numbers but I want to do it safely. I suppose I should consider myself lucky that I can come home each day for lunch to at least obtain a mid-cycle reading. I can see how for some that would not be possible. A year ago I transferred to my current work location which is only a 4 minute drive from my home, prior to that I worked at a location that was a 40 minute drive from my home so it would have been impossible to come home for lunch then.
