ER vet said there's no drug interaction with the 2. He puked after both so I'm not sure how much he got of either. He's laying in the bathtub now after walking around for about 5mins.I'm waiting around hoping he will pee, he will probably be taking Spooks vet appointment tomorrow!

He ate a whole jar of baby food & peed!
Oh, what a relief. I just am seeing this this morning. Went to be last night about 11:30 ... just before you sent this. But my advice probably would have been that this was a medical emergency and that he should go to the ER. If you spoke with the ER, I am sure they told you that when a cat is blocked it is a medical emergency and that you can lose a cat who is blocked in a matter of hours. So keep an eye on him to make sure he is peeing regularly.

Also, let me get this straight... you are giving him Cerenia (how much exactly?) about three hours before the doxycycline? And you are giving the Doxycycline with food? I would definitely do that -- he likes baby food (most times.) I would have the vet check Panzer for dehydration. The pepcid is for excess stomach acid, which tends to build up if they have an empty stomach and haven't eaten for a while. If he needs it, you will know because he will be vomiting mostly clear white stuff - usually foamy looking. If he's vomiting food after eating, it's not the same thing.

I really think that Panzer needs some fluids to flush things out. I wish you could give him some at home.

So far he's eating ok & I saw him pee not long after he ate the jar of baby food. I'm feeding a little early so I can see if I need to cancel work today or not. He was sticking his tongue out a bit?

Cerenia should be dosed at a minimum of 1 mg. per kg. So 1 mg. per 2.2 lbs. Panzer's weight again?

More can be given if it's not controlling the vomiting (but just once a day.)

I gave him the cerenia @+8 feeding, the doxycycline @+4 feeding that's when he puked.

He weighs 16lbs. I gave him a half of one last night & none since then.
And your tablets are 16 mg. tablets, correct? If so, then half is good. It's better to give the Cerenia first thing in the morning. About an hour before you do the first feeding. But is it always at night that he vomits? If you gave one last night, he will hopefully be good for today. How long after you gave the Cerenia did he vomit (or did he do it before?)

Here's another thing I really want to mention. As I am sure you know, UTIs can be painful. When you said that last night he was lying on the bathroom floor and his head and paw were jerking. This, to me, means he was in pain. When I have had cats with particularly bad UTIs that were painful (crying in the litter box, and signs like Panzer has had) my vet has given me Buprenorphine for pain. It made the cat WAY more comfortable. .... but now that I am thinking about this more... didn't you say that you thought there was no way you could get it into him? They could do an injection of Buprenex at the vet, but it won't be very long acting (usually 24 hours, although there is a newer, longer lasting shot called Bup SR that lasts for, typically, 48 hours.) Maybe 24 hours will get him over the hump as the Doxy starts to work (it just HAS to work!!)

They are 24 mg tablets. He puked 45mins after the doxycycline & then again after eating a few bites the next feeding about 10mins after the cerenia. I just talked to the vet they said to bring in with Spook.

Okay I will talk to the vet about it, he seems ok so I'm going to head to work.

Christina, what size are the Doxycycline tablets? Are they the big round flat tablets? Here's what I am wondering. If you can fit the doxycyline tablets into Gelatin Capsules. The doxy really seems to be irritating his stomach and causing him to vomit. I am thinking if you can put them into a gelcap that it might help. Be sure to tell the vet that he vomited about 45 minutes after the doxy. They may be able to give you something that can help with that. Slippery Elm Bark can help but it has to be given a little bit apart from the antibiotics. There are meds that they sometimes give to protect the stomach.

+11 AMPS it is 8:20 am here now.
3pm vet

Ok I will thank you Suzanne

They are big round blue tablets 75mg

You really need to get the Cerenia into a gelcap if you can. They are notoriously bitter. Most cats will foam at the mouth if they taste it. I guess Panzer has been just swallowing the pill pocket whole? I would still gelcap them.

Oh, right. You are in the part of Indiana that is in the Eastern time zone (which I guess is most of the state except a little bit up north and down south.) I remember now!

Where do I get gel caps? I believe is swallowing it whole. I give him a pill pocket with the pill then one without the pill. If the doesn't change his antibiotic I will break tonight's dose into 2 pills & give 2 in pill pocket then one without a pill.

Panzer ate all of his food @+8.25 AMPS feeding with some coaxing & fortiflora. Spook ate 3/4 his food with alot of coaxing took him & me coaxing 25mins for him to eat. Panzer peed when he was done eating & Spook pooped when he was done. Two sick boys, I hope the vet can figure this out! I am writing down everything you said for the vet. What do you recommend for Spook? Blood work urinalysis?

Okay, so the main thing about Spook is that he's really off his food... appetite is poor and is that it? He takes a lot of coaxing to eat? Anything else, excess water drinking? Peeing and pooping okay?

I would definitely say that the basic starting point is for them to do a CBC, Chemistry Panel and a urinalysis.

If he's gobbling it up and not tasting it (biting down on it) it's probably okay. The tricky part with Gelatin Capsules is getting the right size. I order mine from Amazon.

So if you want the most bang for your buck then have them send the blood out to a lab. You should have results back by tomorrow. If it were urgent that they find out something today, then they could do in house. But since Spook is not in any danger (sound like) you could probably just have them send it out and wait. Do you remember which Laboratory your vet uses? It would be at the top of the bloodwork.

Cerenia fits into a size 4 gelcap. But yours are 24 mg.(mine are the 16 mg size though. I can fit a whole one in there, so I am thinking that you can probably fit a half of a 24 in there. But again, if he's really gobbling them up and hasn't foamed at the mouth, then you are doing well.

Yes it is mainly Spooks appetite. I know he puked once that I saw & one time I came home to puke with furball, pretty sure it was him. Panzer I've noticed won't eat after puking unless I give him Cerenia. They both shared a jar of baby food @AMPS 4am my time like they always do, Panzer's with the probiotic in it. I've saw Spook pee this morning than poop this afternoon.

I'm trying to find where you told me how old Spook is... I think it was on a different day... did you say 5 or 6 years old?
He just turned 5 he's never had bloodwork or a urinalysis. He's only been sick once when he was a baby & I had to give him liquid amoxicillin.

Yeah he gobbles all pills up in a pill pocket no foaming at the mouth. The vet I fired had me giving him gabapentin to see him for appointments, that was liquid & he did foam at the mouth.

ANTECH for bloodwork

I never see either of them drinking water. I put 2tabespooons of water in there food everytime they eat.

I would ask them the price for the bloodwork. I can get a "Total Health Plus Basic" that includes all the basics we have discussed plus a T4 for $98.00 (sent out to the lab)

I'm looking at Spooks records now. On Oct 12th 2017 he had polyflex injection. Azium injection & 15ml liquid amoxicillin. July of 2018 bloody stool, right eye neo poly dex ointment. Depo medrol injection & convenia injection. He had an exam in July of 2018 & more neo poly dex drops. His last exam was April of 2021 & he got a 3yr rabies shot. I no longer believe in shots. I was forced by the vet I fired to give Panzer the one year rabies shot & that was in June of last year.

Definitely will be asking about the price. We have about $2200 left on care credit. I haven had it long I've made one payment so it's probably to soon to ask for a higher credit limit.

I feel your pain. My Care Credit is pretty high. I have a few promotional purchases that I need to pay off soon before I have to pay back interest (going back to the date of the original transaction). I have some tax refund money that I will use to pay off some of that (and some will go directly to my vet, who also lets me run a tab.)
