Furball's vet visit went well, except that she has an ear infection. They gave me Baytril Otic to give her twice a day. The vet was impressed with how healthy Furball is for being a diabetic. She said her fur was great and her lungs and heart sounded good. I tested her before I went to the vet and she was 230. I tested her when I got back from the vet and she was 257. I think that's pretty good considering they cleaned her ear and she hates having her ear bothered because her old vet used to dig and dig at her ear when she had an ear infection. She gets ear infections a lot. She will always have a problem with the left ear.

I went to Wal-Mart to get some syringes and was told they are now tracking syringe sales. There will eventually be a national database. I had to prove I needed the syringes for a medical reason and show my driver's license. They had to call my vet since I didn't have anything with me to prove why I needed the syringes. I hope this doesn't become a problem in the future and I'm not able to get syringes when I need them. They told me I can bring the insulin with me next time, but I don't like that idea. I don't want to carry insulin around any more than I have to. The next time I think I'll try taking the box the insulin came in and see if that works.

That's so goofy about "tracking syringe purchases". I can just imagine that information sitting somewhere on someone's desk for years. thanks, tho for the heads up. I'll try and remember to bring the insulin box next time i have to buy syringes. ohmygod_smile Enjoy your days off!

Hi Carla, so glad Furball's Vetty visit went well, and the med will help clear her infection. Sending some healing vines for her little ear. Thanks for the heads up on the syringes. That's a surprise. I normally get mine from ADW and wonder if any changes there yet. Enjoy your day off today and get some well deserved rest, too.

I'm glad to hear that the vet visit went well, and I wish for FurBall to make a full and speedy recovery. I'm sorry to hear about the syringe issue.

I bought some syringes Saturday without a problem. Just couldn't remember the size needle that I needed, until she mentioned 30 gauge, and I told her no, 31 gauge. I truly hope that this doesn't become a national thing. Walmart carries the cheapest ones.

Wow Carla! What a bunch of b s....I wonder if they're going to start that in Ohio? I buy Gobbles' syringes at ADW....1/2 unit, 31 gauge, short needle--only $13,99 for 100 (SureComfort). And I've never had a problem with them...

Furball was happy & purry this evening until I gave her the ear drops. She's not going to be happy that I have to do that for a week. I got busy this afternoon and didn't get very many tests in. I'm glad I caught that 180 or I would have thought she just kept going up after her vet visit.

Hi Carla & Furball,
Congrats on a good vetty visit, Furball, and I hope that your ear infection clears up soon.

In NY State you have to have a prescription to buy syringes. ADW called my vet after I had placed an online order and the vet faxed them a prescription. Now, when I order, I just write on the form "prescription on file".
Perhaps the pharmacist at Walmart would accept a copy of Furball's insulin prescription. (Anyone could conceiveably bring in an insulin box.) Otherwise, simply get your vet to write a prescription for the syringes and to give you the maximum number of refills.

Good to hear that the vet visit went well stress wise and I hope the infection clears up quickly. We need prescriptions for syringes here in NJ too, although I ordered form Hocks a while back and didn't need to provide anything for the internet order.

Of course your vet was impressed by Furball. She's doing quite well...well, minus the ear infection. That will clear soon. Ok, Furball, it's time for you to slide on down into the pretty blues.

I buy my syringes from Wal-mart, too, but I bought her insulin from CVS (last year). I just take the CVS prescription receipt as my verification and so far (knock on wood), they've been good about selling me syringes. Hope you guys have a great night!
