04/21 Pinkie dropping too fast?

Hello everyone,

I recently adjusted Pinkie's dose to 1u. Numbers were still relatively high up until now. Today she was 12.4 about 3.5 hrs ago, got her insulin along with her food, and is now 4.8. Should I give her some extra food now to bring her BG back up or wait it out for a bit?

Thanks!

You need to feed something higher in carbs to slow that down and test again in 30 minutes

I just gave her some of my other cat's dry food, she's probably never been so excited in her life. I wasn't really sure how much to give her since this hasn't happened before so she just had a few mouthfuls.

Should I lower the dose back to .75 after this?

We don't recommend using dry food for situations like this....You should have an assortment of different types of canned food (a lot of people use a marker and put the carb % on the top of the can)

Low carb is under 10%
Medium carb is about 11% to 15%
High carb is above 16%

It takes longer for dry food to break down and get into the bloodstream. When we need to steer the numbers, we want to give just enough to slow them down or nudge them up

Good to know, I will pick up some higher carb wet food tomorrow. She was down to 3.1 when I gave her the food, now at 3.4 so I will keep an eye on her. Is she likely to drop down again or will she probably keep climbing now that shes started to?
