Last Night:
175 PMPS
307 +2.5
337 +6.5

J.D. ate his 1st Breffis, and then didn't want his 2nd Breffis, but ate Ginger's okay. We went for a walk and he is still walking slowly. I think I'll make the drive to Costco and get the injectable cyanocobalamin.
I increased his Ondansetron from 1MG to 2 MG twice a day this morning, so will pick up some more of that, too.
He just ate his 3rd Breffis just fine out on the porch, and is laying out there, but I see his head turned toward his belly, so still wonder if I should give him some bupe, and I still haven't given him his adequan (which was due yesterday), because I don't know how well it will mix with everything else.

Re: 04/15 J.D. AMPS 352 Question: 1/4ML = 25Units?

I just got back from Costco and the cyanocobalamin says use 1/4 of ML weekly for 6 weeks and then every 1 or 2 months. Does 1/4ml equal 25units on a 3/10ml syringe?

yes and I give Twinkie 1/2 u every week. 2 shots with same syringe as you

Thanks Dian. Just to clarify, you give Twinkie 1/2 unit or 1/2 ml every week?

lol 1/2 cc .50 so used to talking insulin. cannot overdose on B12. it is water soluble and what is not used is excreted. using it for twinks anemia due to CRF or bartinella

Yes, .25 ml would be 25 units on a .3 ml syringe.

I think he could get the Adequan at the same time as the other meds.

Thanks Linda. That B12 is florescent pink.

I'm hoping he feels better soon.

Re: 04/15 J.D. PMPS 338

My cats were starving (especially Ginger, who has been obnoxious and making quite a show for the past hour telling me how hungggry she is) and happily ate their 1st dinner.
I gave J.D. his Methylcolabamin and his Adequan at PMPS. I hope it's okay to continue with the Methyl B12 (1/2MG twice a day) while getting the other cyanocolabamin B12 shot weekly. The Methyl B12 is for neuropathy and he does seem to be walking just a little bit taller.

I agree with what Dian said about excess B12 being excreted.

This link is a good one on Cobalamin supplementation:

http://vetmed.tamu.edu/gilab/research/cobalamin-information

Quotes from the above site:

Since cobalamin is a water-soluble vitamin, excess cobalamin is excreted through the kidneys and clinical disease due to over-supplementation has not been described.

We currently recommend that all dogs and cats with chronic histories of gastrointestinal disease should have serum cobalamin concentrations measured. This is particularly important in any case with sub-optimal response to previously instituted therapy. As cobalamin is inexpensive, water soluble and any excess is readily disposed, cobalamin supplementation should certainly be considered for any animal with a serum cobalamin concentration lower than the laboratory reference range.

Cobalamin may also have a pharmacologic effect as an appetite stimulant. Anorectic feline patients with cobalamin deficiency often start to eat again once they are being supplemented and appetite wanes once again when cobalamin is no longer administered weekly, despite a normal serum cobalamin concentration. In these patients cobalamin supplementation should be continued on a weekly or biweekly dosing schedule.

I just gave J.D. 0.05 of R to try to break through these pinks. I had this case of Friskies Special Diet (I've never fed Special Diet before) Beef & Chicken Classic Pate, that's been sitting here forever, that I was thinking of returning. I opened a can and they ate it! I gave J.D. the other half of his Ondansetron with this 3rd Dinner, and he bit me and drew blood on my poor thumb, for the third time in a row. I hope his teeth are clean. I've been rinsing it, and putting on betadine and then wrapping it half day with a bandage and neosporin.
