Good morning,

I was having great difficulty getting the insulin out of the vile this morning without air bubbles. It was extremly frustrating and as a result I shot 30 minutes after I took her bg. The initial time I took her bg was 277 and she ate a bit of food. By the time I got a good dose in the syringe, I thought it was best that I test her again and she dropped to 239. I realize this was after she had eaten but I don't think the carbs from the wet effect her so quickly but I could be wrong. We could have an active cycle.

Re: 04/13 Ella AMPS 239

I waste a lot of insulin when measuring the dose. If I get air bubbles the first time, I try (almost always unsuccessfully) to flick them to the top of the syringe and expell them out through the needle. I usually give up trying to get the air bubbles out, pretty quickly, and squirt all the insulin into the sink, and try again with the same needle and syringe.
Holding the plunger in tight while at the same time pushing the needle through the stopper in the vial (pen) helps.

We both got yellow kitties :-D

Good morning Dyana!

It's always so comforting to see you in the morning :-D

Thanks for the tips on the air bubbles. My sink will definitely be going hypo today

YAY for the yellow kitties!

Happy Caturday!

 poor sink!

i posted late last night with more thoughts about you using a timed feeder. just want to make sure you saw it, tamara.

Re: 04/14 Ella AMPS 239 +1= 210 +2= +4 185

+4 185. I'm leaving the house to go to Zumba for an hour...this is big news around these parts:)
Then I'm supposed to be going to see our school's glee club perform with the top finalists from the states. It might be exciting if I can get there!

Re: 04/14 Ella AMPS 239 +1= 210 +2= +4 185

just now saw that you commented on last night's post. i like the many compartment feeder because it gives you security to cover a couple of hours.

the usual "recipe" for low numbers is a teaspoon of gravy and recheck in 20-30 minutes. repeat as needed to keep her above 50. karo syrup can be used instead. either one could be mixed with her regular food.

sounds like a nice day - have fun!

Re: 04/14 Ella AMPS 239 +1= 210 +2= +4 185 +6 237

Oh no...looks like another bounce! How is she going to get through these bounces?
Perhaps I need to feed her through the blues to help her surf there just like I would through the greens?

Poor lil Ella:(

Re: 04/14 Ella AMPS 239 +1= 210 +2= +4 185 +6 237+7=207

+7 207 hmmmm...why is did she go up and then down?

Re: 04/14 Ella AMPS 239 +1= 210 +2= +4 185 +6 237+7=207

it's not a bounce - at least doesn't look like one yet.

couple of things - one is the normal lantus curve goes up once it's past the nadir, but some cats begin to see what's called a "double dip" at the end of the cycle. doesn't mean anything, just is.

the bouncing gets shorter in duration and then will stop at some point.

Re: 04/14 Ella AMPS 239 +1= 210 +2= +4 185 +6 237+7=207

I actually think it looks more like meter variance. Usually the second dip comes later in the cycle....around +10 or so. And kitties can wobble, too, especially if you fed her anything after the +4.

She's looking good!!

Enjoy your day, Tamara!

Re: 04/14 Ella AMPS 239 +1= 210 +2= +4 185 +6 237+7=207

So Ella is 162 at +11 but Greg fed her1/8 while I was out at +9 so this number could be food influenced. Why does her number continue to drop closer to ps time? Isn't the insulin supposed to be wearing off or is this called the overlap?

She's hungry now but will have to wait a tad longer until ps. I feel like I want to feed her to see if I can prevent a bounce but I won't.

Re: 04/14 Ella AMPS 239 +1= 210 +2= +4 185 +6 237+7=207+11 1

You can give her a small bit of boiled chicken or another treat that has no carbs.
I just let my kitties finish off a freeze dried chicken breast bag. And J.D. had a slice of steak (cooked with no spices).

Re: 04/14 Ella AMPS 239 +1= 210 +2= +4 185 +6 237+7=207+11 1

I tried the boiled chicken snack with Ella and she falt out refused! If her numbers drop in the next 25 minutes before ps and she ate 2 hours ago should I stall?

Re: 04/14 Ella AMPS 239 +1= 210 +2= +4 185 +6 237+7=207+11 1

Let's see what her +12 number is. Unless it's dramatically dropped, I doubt we'll advise you to stall, as long as you're going to be around tonight and have all the supplies you need (the usual disclaimer).

Re: 04/14 Ella AMPS 239 +1= 210 +2= +4 185 +6 237+7=207+11 1

How many minutes before your shot time? I need to go try to get my cat back home. So, just want to know how long I have.

Re: 04/14 Ella AMPS 239 +1= 210 +2= +4 185 +6 237+7=207+11 1

shot time is in 12 minutes but i usually feed her first and take bg now...i'll take her bg now

Re: 04/14 Ella AMPS 239 +1= 210 +2= +4 185 +6 237+7=207+11 1

bounce!!! booo!!!335!!!

Re: 04/14 Ella AMPS 239 +1= 210 +2= +4 185 +6 237+7=207+11 1

Sorry, for the bounce. I hope it's quick.

Re: 04/14 Ella AMPS 239 +1= 210 +2= +4 185 +6 237+7=207+11 1

WOW I can't believe that happened so fast...between 45 minutes!

I saw her breathing rate increase...that must have been what was happening! I thought I was going to help her surf tonight:(

I really think I might have to get her surfing in the blues with some food. Does that sound logical?

If she's going to bounce, she's going to bounce and the food won't matter.....sorry to say!! I wish it were that easy.

If she was a diver early in the cycle, you could use food management to slow her down a bit to flatten the curve since diving can cause the bounces. But if she's bouncing because she got lower than she was
used to, you can't feed to stop the bounce and keep her in blue.......
